We love upgrading our studio tools! We saw this on marketplace and we instantly knew it was the perfect addition to our stained glass studio. This bar height light table can be used when you are in open studio, when you are shopping for glass or when you are coming in for a custom design consultation! Easy to move around the studio too!

We got a big (to us) window job! Restoring seven windows in a residential home in Guelph. Keeping the original fixtures, glass and beauty!

I stumbled upon this job by an act of courage. I walked by these windows every day since 2023. They were in rough shape. Paint was crazing and flaking off badly. The beautiful old wavy glass was the only thing still easy on the eyes! One day when I walked by I saw the front door open. I walked up to the door, knocked and said “hello?” a young man came down and asked how he could help. I said do you live here? Do you know the owner? He told me he was just there painting and he would go get his boss to help me further. I said oh don’t worry about it. I don’t mean to bother you. I went on my way.

The next day I walked by and I saw an older man on the porch and I said “hi are you the owner of this home?” he said “no I’m the painter. Were you here yesterday?”and I said yes I was. I explained I’m curious about the windows at the side of the house. I’m trying to contact the owner to talk about the potential of restoring them. The man said to me, I wouldn’t bother he’s not interested in spending the money. I said OK thank you for your help and I went on my way.

About two weeks later, I was walking by and I saw a man standing outside, looking at his cell phone in front of the windows that I was interested in restoring. I said hi are you the owner of this home? And he goes 🤔 “yes I am.” I introduced myself and I said to him that I would like to restore the windows on his house. He replies to me “ I was just thinking about what I was gonna do about these windows.”

He then brings me through the whole house showing me all of the windows. Like most people, he was unaware that Wood Windows could be restored. He invited me back to do an assessment of his Windows to provide a quote. The rest is history as you can see we were hired! I’m so grateful for the opportunity. This is definitely one of the biggest jobs so far of my career and I’m looking forward to continuing to grow this service and share everything that it has to offer.

Certified 🏆 These last six weeks have been a transformation! I remember when I first started exploring wood window frames - the dozens of phone calls, hundreds of questions (there will be more questions), reading about others experience, reading books. It’s amazing to be in a place where I feel like I can complete a project independently without being overwhelmed and be able to think through it. So proud that I continued to learn and invest in myself.

Taking this time away from the shop was a big decision but I felt extremely supported by the Lucent Glass team and I’m grateful for that! Thabn you Lynn, Sam and Victoria! Thank you to Brandon Fleishour and Steve Jordan Steve Jordan at Pain in the Glass for guiding me, willingly answering my questions and making me feel so welcome! Forever grateful to the The Landmark Society of WNY for offering the program and to Valley Historic Windows for sharing it on their instagram. Thank you to Jodie Bernard for sharing this common interest and dedicating the time to tag along my side! This career feels so aligned in mind body and soul. 🙏

There are some big things ahead and I’m excited to share wood window craft with the art glass community so we can all expand our knowledge. Together we will save, repair and build interesting, long lasting architecture.

Over the last six weeks I have been studying wood window repair in Rochester, New York. The final missing piece to my education before I go out into the workforce. I have travelled all over the United States learning from industry leaders and attending events. This education is so valuable to my stained glass work as we have to support the structures that hold it as well as the stain glass itself. We kept being asked to complete projects that included the wood frame without the knowledge on how to work with it and how to properly care for the structure itself. For example, previously I would think that you could use any type of silicone or caulking to glaze a stain glass window into a frame. I know now that that is an incorrect method. So by obtaining this knowledge, I can better serve my customers and better serve their home and our heritage buildings. It might seem a little out of our scope right now, but it all ties together. You’re seeing all of my (Jessica) day today hands-on experience and I am bringing you along for the ride. All of my content is authentic what I’m learning right now, and I tried to share that with the people who follow this account. So, still very much stained glass focused. We’re expanding our service offerings to our clients and let me tell you, It has been a huge asset to have this understanding as I’m able to complete the work myself without calling in another professional to help me. This means that I can work on my own timeline and I don’t need to coordinate with someone else for sometimes only one window. If you want to work in architectural stained glass this knowledge is a must and we could always use more window restoration professionals 🫡

Removing a 24” piece of antique wavy glass from the glazing groove of a sash painted way too many times makes its way into my top 10 scariest moments. 😱 glass was my first trade so the temperament I have built up over the last 9 years working with the material has been a great asset for wood window repair. 👩‍🔧

Removing the putty from a window sash using the steam stripper was a breeze! Like butter! 🧈 the putty is otherwise removed with a chisel, hammer and lots of elbow grease 🥵 so to have it fall off with a putty knife is a dream.
