Remember when we said "leashed pets welcome"?

πŸ‘‰ We forgot to say pets in carriers are ALSO absolutely welcome here with you πŸ˜ƒ

This beautiful bird came to visit recently, as you can see in the photo in our tropical greenhouse.
..We may start a list of all the different types of wonderful animals that have come through. The bearded dragon that visited a few years ago was unique!

Other adorable canine companions also featured here: Loki, Jax, and Ziggy.

We look forward to seeing more of your four-legged, feathered, and other friends here - inside the greenhouses, outside amidst our perennials, shrubs, and trees, and in the boutique fashion area πŸ‘

How to properly deadhead your roses 🌹

Cut off the spent flowers to help redirect the plants's energy into making MORE flowers.

πŸ‘‰ With a single stem, such as a hybrid tea rose, go down 2 sets of leaves and then cut -- this starts the new growth at a place where the cane is thick enough to support the next stem and bloom that will grow from that point.

πŸ‘‰ For floribunda roses, go as far down the stem as where the next buds are beginning to grow.

* The 'rule' of going down to where the 5 leaflet leaf is growing, tends to be where the cane is strong enough to support the new growth.

So whether you prefer to count leaflets 🌿 or count the number of sets of leaves down the stem, keep in mind the size of the cane where you are cutting πŸ‘Œ

Life after breast cancer πŸ‘‰ paddling with a dragon boat team πŸš£β€β™€οΈ to help with healing & reducing the risk of lymphedema.

Tanya Olsen, owner of Royal City Nursery, is now in her 3rd year with the Dragonflyers breast cancer survivors dragon boat team.

..Can you imagine going from facing a cancer diagnosis, treatment, and uncertainty about your future, to the opportunity to travel to France and really live life to the fullest?

True story: We prefer to lift plants for you rather than weights πŸ’ͺ

πŸ€” Why pay to to the gym when you can get paid to go to work? πŸ‹β€β™‚οΈ

& Time in the garden can feel like a full-body workout, some days! Right?

Dry, shade areas in the garden might feel difficult for what to plant.

While hostas are an option, here are some other excellent choices that are beautiful and will thrive in dry shade 🌿

Are your plant's leaves curling? πŸ‘€ Be sure to check the back of the leaves for this pesky pest.

Depending on how much of your plant is affected, you may need to treat with a product. (This organic one is our favourite!)

Noticing problems or pests ASAP can really make a difference.

As Tanya says -- "Be sure to check on your plants and make sure they are okay too" πŸ’š

We hope each of you is keeping well amidst the summer heat & poor air quality due to wildfires.
