Bon odori is a community dance in Japan, mostly at summer festivals. There are various dances across the country 🗾

At Taste Asia Food & Culture Festival we are doing three:

Tankou bushi | 炭坑節
A cole mining dance from Fukuoka Prefecture. This represents more traditional dance. It is said that this was a song from Meiji Era, now it's famous across Japan.

Doraemon Ondo | ドラえもん音頭
Did you know some anime have their own bon odori? We are doing one from Doraemon, a popular anime for kids!

Bon-Jovi | 盆ジョヴィ
Yes, the musician. One time, a DJ put Bon Jovi's Livin' on a Prayer by mistake, but it became a big hit! Now, they use J-POP and other music, creating new history of Bon odori.

👘 JOIN OUR BON-ODORI 👘

We'll be dancing bon-odori Taste Asia Food & Culture Festival on Sat, Sep 12 at 3-4pm and on Sun, Sep 13 at 4-5pm😋

The dances are simple, and we welcome all the visitors to join our dance!

Three dances:
1. Tankou bushi - This is a mining dance from Fukuoka. Very famous and traditional bon-odori style.
⁡
2. Doraemon ondo - This is from the anime, Doraemon. A lot of kids show in Japan make their original choreography!
⁡
3. Bon-Jovi - Yes the musician... This started from a DJ using Bon Jovi's music by mistake but now it's popular in Japan! We'll be using different Japanese songs and of course, Bon Jovi's song.

8月15日、2629 Agricola St (Italian Canadian Culture Association の建物内）にて交流会を行います🌸🌊

Gama by Lee のお弁当を食べながら、日本人、日系人コミュニティ、そしてHJCCについてより知ってもらうイベントとなっています。またこちらのイベントでは、子供向けに日本のゲームなども用意しています。

参加費はお弁当のサイズごとに分けてあります。

Come join us for lunch at 2629 Agricola St (inside the Italian Canadian Culture Association building) on August 15, 2026🌸🌊

This is a small gathering to get to know the community and HJCC while we enjoy the bento box from Gama by Lee. This is a family-friendly event, and there will be space for kids to enjoy some Japanese games and activities.

There will be two ticket types depending on the size of bento boxes:
🍱 $18 for full-sized bento (recommended for adults)
🍱 $12 for half-sized bento (recommended for children)

It went well thanks to all vendors and volunteers as always!!

We had first collaboration with Japanese School of Halifax for the workshop and also the chorus! Thank you for coordinators and students who participated.

出店者の皆様、ボランティアの皆様のおかげでスムーズにマーケットを行うことができました。本当にありがとうございます。

また、初めての試みとしてハリファックス日本語補習授業校の皆様とワークショップの運営と合唱を行いました。
