Located at 5523 Young St in Halifax's historic Hydrostone Market since 2017, we showcase contemporary Canadian artists and are thrilled to bring you pieces that are high quality, smart and engaging. Those of us, who live and work in the area, hear daily, the bells chime from the hill in Fort Needham Park. We remember the tragic day in 1917 when a communications error resulted in the collision of t

wo ships in Halifax Harbour. Just before 9:05 am, on December 6th, the munitions onboard the Mont Blanc exploded, unleashing a force more powerful than anything prior to detonation of the atomic bomb. The explosion levelled buildings, imploded glass windows, and ignited fires. Over 1900 people were killed in the explosion and another 9000 were maimed or blinded. More than 2.5 square kilometers of the city was obliterated. The most notable monument to the Halifax Explosion is the Halifax Explosion Memorial Bell Tower sited in Fort Needham Park. This is the site of the Halifax Explosion Memorial service held annually on December 6th to commemorate the disaster. The bell tower houses 14 bells that sound out over a vibrant, thriving diverse neighbourhood. 14 Bells Fine Art Gallery is proud to acknowledge the spirit of the city that supports them; a city that, quite literally has risen from the ashes and over the past one hundred years has become one of the best places to live in Canada. We are thrilled to be opening at 5523 Young St in the historic Hydrostone Market, steps away from Fort Needham Park. The gallery will be supporting contemporary Canadian artists. We will bring you pieces that are high quality; smart and engaging.
