Upon re-opening tomorrow you’ll be greeted by this heavily-carved 1735 German Baroque oak marriage chest with deep-carved Gothic script to the front reading “AN GOTTES SEGEN IST ALLES GELEGEN”, an old Biblical saying which loosely translates to “Everything we get comes only with God’s blessing.” Seldom found with such an untouched original surface. www.finerthingsantiques.com

Dubbed “The Humourous Chest” these bureaus were offered by the famous luxury furniture brand Theodore Alexander of High Point, North Carolina, in the 1990s. Based on a 19th century Italian design and exceptionally well-crafted, with solid cast brass monkey head pulls and full-bodied cast monkeys mounted on the base. Available at Finer Things.

Exceptional early 1900s shipbuilder’s model from the collection of Chris Huntington. Oral provenance suggests it’s a Rhuland model. (See website for further details.) Over 4 feet in length, comprised of no less than 13 lifts and featuring an applied keel and rudder. There is a penciled inscription near the bow that reads “Length of keel 70ft.” A 70-foot keel would be about what one would expect on a a medium-sized 100-foot Grand Banks fishing schooner of the late 19th/early 20th century.

Visually strong room divider comprising three wooden-framed stretchers with hand-painted canvas panels, hinged and folding as one. Hand-painted with various crests and Latin motto which translates to “True nobility comes from honesty, not from an illustrious family or famous ancestors.” The panels would make for an interesting piece of large wall art. Each panel is 23” x 70” and with a total combined size of 69” wide.
