We did the Kukui Trail going down into Waimea Canyon on Kauai & remember, what goes down must come back up! (Not quite the saying we all know...) We had another late start today, beginning our at 10am. I definitely recommend starting earlier than that!

The first bit of the trail has periodic shade, which was quite nice, but you soon lose the shade, trading it for dusty, wide open areas. The ground was quite loose as we were hiking in dry conditions, but I could see it being quite treacherous in the rain. After quite a bit of blazing sun, you are then surprised to find yourself a lush forested area with shade again. This leads you to the bottom, where a cool, refreshing stream awaits you.

We spent some time at the stream, soaking my feet a bit in the cool, refreshing water, & we had some snacks to refuel. There is an outhouse there, but I gladly took a squat off trail instead of battling it out with the monster spiders we saw in there!

The hike back up to the top I found to be challenging, as we were not only tackling the incline, but also, the heat was real! We took small breaks wherever we could find little pockets of shade.

We found our poles were helpful with the incline, reaching the top 4 hours later. Bring LOTS of water as you'll need it!

We did the Nounou East Trail to hike up to the top of the Sleeping Giant on Kauai. We had a bit of a late start, beginning around 9:30am, & the small parking lot was full, so we had to park a few streets away. From the base, your goal can be seen, as the impressive cliff is directly above you, & you get glimpses of it as you climb closer & closer.

The hike itself is a very gradual incline, zig-zagging up the side of the mountain. Close to the top, the East trail merged with the West trail before reaching a picnic area at the top of the giant's "chest". There are some beautiful views there, but if you continue for about 10 more minutes, & you don't mind a bit of easy rock climbing, you can reach the giant's "head" where panoramic vistas reward your climb!

The trail conditions were quite muddy, with some slippery areas. We found our hiking poles were very helpful for our descent, saving us from some slips & falls, & decent footwear with good treads is recommended, though we saw many doing the hike in sandals. Overall, it's a fairly easy climb with gorgeous views!

While visiting the island of Kauai, & given our love of a certain caffeinated drink, we felt a visit to the was in the cards!

We walked the self-guided tour, reading the signs to learn about the company & the coffee harvesting process. We also tried many of their free samples before settling on ordering the macadamia nut iced latte & the blended decadence frappe. We enjoyed our refreshing drinks on the patio while enjoying visits from the many geckos!

We did the Wiliwilinui Ridge Trail hike on O'ahu, and man, was it EPIC!

We were set to hike Diamond Head, but it's closed right now for some sort of maintenance, so we searched for an alternate adventure.

The trail started out quite tame in the forest, but it soon changed to dirt, & the hills became steeper as we went along. Then, we started the stairs to begin hiking the open trail of the ridge. We saw an old tower at the top with a path leading to it, and we thought that was our goal. Nope! The summit of the mountain ridge was beyond the tower, but the views were totally worth it! Not only could we see Honolulu, Waikiki, & Diamond Head, but we were also rewarded with incredible views of the other side of the island!

I hope everyone had a safe and spooky Halloween last week! 👻🎃

I often craft to make gifts for friends and family, but every now and then I craft... for me! And is the perfect time to haul out the to help make my come to life! A bit late to post it, but last year, my husband and I decided to do separate costumes, but that gave me the perfect opportunity to try out this classic from Darla. She may have a smaller role, but her personality is large, and she was super fun to embody!

The details aren't perfect, such as the skirt (I believe hers was yellow), but part of the fun of creating your own costume is hunting through thrift stores. I found this skirt and purple shirt at then cut some black from and 2 colours of from to make Darla's "rock n roll girl" design. Tin foil made up my braces, I swept up my hair up into pigtails, and my own big eyes and freckles completed the look! Super fun!

Yesterday was long but rewarding!

2 years ago, my and I, hiked the Hamilton to Brantford Rail Trail, making it to Brantford but dipping out at 32km, just shy of the end of the trail, due to bad blisters on my feet.

This year, we had 2 people joining us, my husband and our good .c.stratton for the journey! The weather was gorgeous, and we made it to the end of the trail! In total, we hiked about 35km in just over 9 hours!

Yes, I did still get blisters on my feet, but they were much better this year, thanks to better footwear with my hiking boots, and my hiking poles. Hopefully, taping my feet will minimize the blisters even more for future long treks!

Also, a big thank you to for dropping us off at the start and picking us up at the end. And thank you to our Brantford friends for hosting us while we ate dinner and sat on their comfy couches!

At Super Crawl this year, we came accross the Jelly Bros tent. We knew of their neighborhood maps, but we had no idea they made such amazing art of Hamilton landmarks. Seeing these colourful pieces of work really inspired us to show our appreciation for Hamilton in our own space.

Our home came with a blueprint of our property lots, and it's been hanging in our hallway. We thought it would look great with the pictures surrounding it, displaying parts of our city that we love and frequent:
Hamilton - as a city overall, Gage Park, Westdale Woods - to represent all of Hamilton's hiking, Dundurn Castle, The Harbour, Lake Timmycaca to represent the downtown core, and the Skyway Bridge that brings us home after visiting other great cities.

A week ago I shared progress of a project for 2 large in of a lovely woman's who passed away in 2021. She requested 2 versions of the sign with different signatures at the bottom in her grandmother's 🖊 so she could one to her aunt as well. I thought this was so touching, and a beautiful to a woman who was clearly ❤️ by her family. Now, they can Grandma's with these signs.

The signs are made using wood from , stained with Ultimate Wood Stain in "Chocolate". temporary vinyl was used for the along with to help protect the negative space during painting. White paint was applied for the text and was used to finish it off.

I've been working on 2 large for a lovely person who found me on Facebook. As her grandmother had recently passed last year, she wanted these to help keep her present in the house. This is just a sneak , come back next weekend to see the finished products, in full view!

I was VERY excited when an amazing friend of mine asked if I could make tank tops for a covid-friendly this past summer (I know, I'm very late posting this). She needed 4 shirts for the and 1 shirt for the .

We started out with the classic saying, and the shirts were done and looked fantastic, but then we learned about the very real issue of the trauma that took place at Residential Schools. Recognizing the word "tribe" could make people uncomfortable, we took steps to alter the shirts to . To make the correction, heat was applied to the underside of the shirts where had been used to apply "Tribe", and the peeled off, with minimal residue remaining. "Squad" was then applied with fresh HTV completing the shirts for what I hear was an excellent party!

In light of this post, I would like to take the opportunity to to say it doesn't hurt to be kind to people. It lifts us up and makes for a better society. There are many problems we face, currently and from the past, but take the opportunity to learn from them and work to make things better, any way you can, big or small.

These shirts were made using stretch from . White was used on the party shirts, and Navy Blue was used for the bride's shirt. The tank tops were purchased from .

One of my absolute ❤️ favourite crafts ❤️ last year was a for two very special people. My Sister-in-law and her fiancé (at the time) asked if I could make this in time for their wedding in September 2021. 🥂👩‍❤️‍👩 I was thrilled to get such a request and got to work straight away!

This was made using wood from , with Ultimate Wood Stain in "Chocolate". temporary vinyl was used for the along with to help get the border lines! White paint was then applied for the design and was used as a top coat to finish it off.
