One of our wonderful clients wrote this beautiful poem about living with disability, and it was simply too meaningful not to share.
So many people carry struggles that are not always visible to the world, which is why kindness, patience, and compassion matter so deeply. Offering support, understanding, and even the smallest act of help can make an incredible difference in someone’s life.
At the heart of every strong community is the willingness to show up for one another — because caring for others is one of the truest reflections of what it means to be a good person.
DISABILITY IN CANADA a poem written by Chantelle Montour
In the depths of despair, my soul cries out, Nobody sees the pain, there's no doubt. An agony so fierce, it never wanes, No medication can soothe these fiery flames.
My life, a tapestry of suffering and strife, Filled with nothing but pain and endless strife. Invisible to all, my torment unseen, A simmering rage, a wounded heart, so keen.
Each day, I wear a mask, a well-practiced charade, Hiding the turmoil behind a facade. But deep within, the anguish resides, A constant companion, where hope subsides.
The pills I consume, in countless array, Offer fleeting solace, then slowly decay. They numb the edges, but never erase, The ceaseless torment that I must face.
Through sleepless nights and weary days, I navigate a labyrinthine maze. The weight of this burden, heavy and vast, Drains my spirit, leaving me aghast.
But in the midst of this darkness, a flicker appears, A glimmer of hope, amidst all my fears. For though nobody may see or comprehend, There's strength within me, waiting to ascend.
I rise above the pain, like a phoenix from the ash, Embracing resilience, against all odds, I clash. For I am more than the anguish I endure, A warrior, a fighter, steadfast and pure.
So, nobody may realize the depth of my plight, But I'll keep on fighting, with all my might. For in the face of adversity, I shall prevail, And transform my pain into a triumphant tale.
