The sewing studio owner’s kids finally get handmade costumes 🧵🎃

Running a sewing studio means my kids usually get the “I’ll make it next year” treatment. Not this year. I finally had the time, and we’re going all in: Stitch, Sully and a Little Mermaid, all made from scratch.

My favourite part? Hazel pulled up a chair at the machine and sewed right alongside me. This is exactly why I love what we do 💙

A tour of 64 Hatt Street 🧵

So many of you have asked about our new home, so we’re taking you inside!

Built in 1850 on the banks of Spencer Creek, this building started as the Dundas Foundry, making steam engines for the Great Western Railway. 🚂 Over the years it’s crafted church pews and lab furniture for universities like Harvard and Yale. Today it’s a heritage-designated home for small businesses, including us!

For over 170 years, people have come here to make things with their hands. We’re just keeping the tradition going (with a lot more fabric 😉).

We’re also in seriously good company. Say hi to some of our neighbours:

Wedding guest dress update 💌🪡

If you remember my last video, I’m making my own wedding guest dress! I’m using the Uma Dress pattern from Friday Pattern Company and here’s where we’re at so far.

I’m not quite finished yet, but I’ve still got a couple of days to finish it before the wedding… no pressure, right? 😂

September Recap 🧵✨

Welcome to our new monthly recap series, where we look back at the month that was! Here’s how September went at Main Fabric:

📊 164 active clients!
👧 64 kids and teens in our weekly sewing program (spots are still available, and you can enroll anytime!)
✂️ 100 adults, with over 7 prerequisite classes run and those students now in our Learn to Sew program

We are honestly SO overwhelmed by the amazing response. If you’ve been thinking about joining, our next prerequisite class is now available to book through November 💛

The lows: Moving is expensive! A new space means upfront investment in things like electrical and lighting, and we’ve had a few hiccups with our breakers that we’re still sorting out. But that’s all part of figuring out a new space ⚡

Overall: We are SO happy with our new studio and so grateful for all the support from our community. Thank you for showing up for us 🙏

We’re looking forward to so many amazing workshops in the month ahead. Stay tuned! 🪡
