Hello! Allow me to reintroduce myself. My name is Kate and I have been flowering for a long time. I have had a couple of brick and mortar shops, a few studios, a few business names over the years but there hasn’t been a year in that time that I didn’t have a pair of snips in my hand professionally.

These days I spend a lot of my time with families at my new day job. I am the events coordinator at Circle of Life in Dundas. Circle of Life is a modern funeral home that prides itself on creating a warm and comforting atmosphere for anyone who has experienced a loss. We are an almost all female team, except for our Harry and
I am in training as a Funeral Director’s Assistant and will be getting my cremation directors licence from Humber this year! 🤗

This role feels very natural for me. Grief and loss have been close feelings for me as a chronically ill person and it’s not my first experience working funerals either. Our logo is a vulture because life and death are part of each other and Harry and I have always cherished that reality.

A new addition to my role that I’m really excited about is FLOWERS (of course). I have put in a cooler at work and I am now the in house designer for our celebrations and services.

What does this mean for Sticks and Stones? Well I’m pretty busy but I am still open for wedding and special event florals. The website is up and you can inquire there, through email or by shooting me a dm.

This also means that you’ll be seeing more content here with some of the work I’m doing at COL.

Please give me a follow as I’m helping with social media there too and would love your support.

Thanks for listening! Happy chocolate bunny weekend to all who celebrate 🫶

I’m so excited to announce that I will be at the Art Gallery of Hamilton on April 18th for a meditative floral workshop that speaks to the powerful subject matter that artists Shary Boyle and Ruth Cuthand focus on in their work.

“This reflective floral workshop responds to the emotionally charged work on view with an embodied, creative practice. Participants will create a small compote-style arrangement that explores tension, displacement, and rootedness – using space and subtle structural elements to express connection and separation within the floral form.”

I will put the link to this workshop in my bio so you can check it out. Hope you can join me for this 🫶

I’ve discovered a new passion. It has to do with teaching, and flowers, but most of all it’s about community building. Our Grief and Flowers workshop at the beginning of the month was as cathartic and meaningful for Harry and I as it was for the beautiful people who joined us. We started with a meditation to get into our bodies and to connect with our emotions, however tumultuous and by bearing witness to each other’s grief. We made beautiful flower arrangements together, each one different but all of them special, like us. Connecting with our community and supporting creativity and expression is a powerful way to move through difficult times and feelings. I feel so honoured to have led this workshop and I’m so excited to announce more soon.
❤️
A special shout out to the whole team for being so welcoming and groovy to core! Check out their newsletter for more events like this from other awesome artists in our community!

To my son on his 11th Birthday.
You came into this world ready for anything. Year after year you face challenges and succeed every time. I can see you slowly realizing just how magnificent you are. You are confident and courageous and compassionate far beyond your age and I find myself wanting to be more like you all the time. You’re starting to see things around you in a new way, starting to understand people better. You’re learning about sincerity, authenticity, patience and commitment. These aren’t easy lessons, there are so many adults who can’t quite grasp these concepts, but here you are at eleven years old seeing so clearly, feeling so honestly.
I can’t and won’t ever really find the right words to express how privileged I feel to be your mom. Loving you is my favourite thing to do. Keep being exactly who you are, you’re magic baby!
Love, Mum

We are really excited to announce a new workshop on February 1st. ✨🌸

This workshop will bring together two important parts of my life, my inspiration as an artist and my experience as a human being in our global community. Many of our followers know that Harry and myself have a long history of confronting grief, loss and mental health on both a broader professional level and also on a personal level.

The newsworthy events of the past year and prior have been sobering reminders of how human it is to grieve and yet grief is still one of the hardest emotions to process in our society due to stigma and fear.

This workshop is unlike anything I have ever hosted or attended in that it will be both a technical class on floral design, mechanics, shape and composition as well as a mindful meditation on the overwhelming collective grief we hold and carry everyday as citizens of the world.

If this concept speaks to you we encourage you to join us from 1-3 at The Revival Art Store on Cannon Street. We will be creating a compote floral arrangement that includes fresh and dried florals and explore the connection between this art form and grief. We will talk about floral design as an expression of the complicated emotions that encompass the concept of grief and we will make and hold space for it. We will also take photographs of everyone’s finished arrangement if they choose.

All materials and tools are provided. You will take home a floral arrangement that will be wrapped to travel a short distance in the cold.

Please secure your spot by Thursday January 29th.

$60.00 per person.
This class is for ages 18+

No prior floral experience required. Just bring yourself.

We will send you a confirmation email when we receive payment. ❤️

I’ve been at this for a long time. Flowers and me.

Can I flower for you in 2026?

2025: The year I had the coma, the year I recovered and cut all my hair off, the year I thought I would go back to school, the year we went home to the UK and showed our babies where they came from, the year I lost so much weight that I nearly died, the year I recovered again. It’s been one hell of a year. I’m kinda glad to see the tail end of it. The only constant is family and flowers, flowers and family tie one year onto the next and I call it my life.
Here’s to better health and more of everything good, for everyone good.

Flower Care 🌱

Whether you’ve ordered flowers from us, another talented florist or picked them up from the grocery store. Here are our top tips for keeping your flowers longer.

❤️ change/add water daily : our houses are dry and most of these flowers are used to nice warm and humid climates. They will be drinking up water fast! Changing the water helps to eliminate bacteria that will kill your blooms faster.

❤️cut your stems before you put bouquets in water. Preferably on an angle to increase surface area for water to absorb. Room temp water is great.

❤️ remove spent blooms. Once a flower has had its moment, remove it. Just like how rotten bananas can spoil other fruit, spent blooms will increase the overall lifespan of your arrangement or bouquet

❤️ keep away from heat like central air or candles for a long period of time. If you’re saving your blooms to gift, keep them in the coolest part of your house or garage. As long as it’s above 4 degrees they shouldn’t freeze.

❤️ you can add a small drop of bleach or flower food powder if you’d like but changing the water and cutting stems will help more

Enjoy your flowers and Happy Holidays everyone!
