Friday, an appointment, I found my inner quilting ninja and just went for it. My computerized quilting machine was humming along, but I was convinced I'd mess it up. After binge-watching tutorials and facing my fears, I nailed it. The real excitement, however, happened on my drive home when I spotted a dead porcupine. Thanks to my Aboriginal craft friends' advice, I decided to give porcupine quill collection a shot. Their 'blanket trick' failed miserably, but I discovered a better method - the 'boot method.' It turned out my shoes were the perfect quill collectors. Next came the 'pushy blanket method,' which worked but required gloves to avoid turning myself into a human porcupine. By then, I was worried townspeople would think I'd lost my mind. In the end, I gathered enough quills for ten pairs of earrings - and a great story.
