☕ MEET SPICED CAFÉ

Spiced Café has been around since 2019 , but she didn’t always look (or smell) like this. The original was ambitious. 😂

I wanted a coffee bar that exfoliated, but I also wanted it to look like coffee. So I made it in four gradient layers….dark coffee brown on the bottom, getting lighter and lighter until it was almost cream on top. It was beautiful.

It was also a pain in the ass to make. 😂

And then I realized I had another problem: I didn’t want to make soap so pretty that people didn’t want to use it.

So over the years, Spiced Café changed.

I ditched the four layers. I started using cocoa powder for that beautiful warm brown. I got tired of the original Café Vanilla scent and eventually changed it to Spiced Coffee Cake.

And that’s when something happened I wasn’t expecting.

The first time I showered with the new version, that warm coffee-and-spice smell hit me and suddenly I was a kid growing up in Merritt again.

Every Saturday, my brothers and I would go to Smitty’s Bakery and buy butterhorns AS BIG AS OUR FACES. 😂🥰

That’s what Spiced Café smells like to me.

Today, it’s still the bar I originally set out to make back in 2019, a scrubby, year-round body polish made with about ¾ cup of real ground coffee from Hasty Coffee Co. right here in High River.

It just took a few years to become exactly what it was supposed to be. ❤️

Meet September’s Soap of the Month: Spiced Café. ☕🧼

CHAI ☕🍂

Chai belongs to fall. Honestly, it might be fall’s middle name. Pumpkin Spice is obviously its first. 😂

All summer, chai waits patiently while we sip lemonades, iced teas and fruity little drinks.

Fine. Have your moment.

But the first cool morning arrives, and those spices finally get their showcase: Cardamom. Cinnamon. Vanilla. Warm, spicy, sweet and completely unapologetic.

Suddenly, we’re ordering chai, making it at home, drinking it hot or cold and adding extra cinnamon because September makes us forget how to behave around spices.

Meanwhile, Coconut Lime is trying to hang on for one more week. Move over, sweetheart. This is a big-boy job. 😂

Chai doesn’t ease us into fall.

Chai don’t care.

It walks in smelling like cardamom and cinnamon and announces that summer is OVER. And we’re ready.

CASHMERE 🤎🍂

Fall’s job is to prepare the world to rest.

The winds get stronger, helping the trees let go of their leaves. Those leaves settle over the ground like a blanket protecting the soil, holding moisture, and giving our summer crawlers somewhere to tuck themselves away.

The whole season is quietly covering, protecting and insulating.

And we do the same. We close the windows and bring out the heavier blankets. We reach for coats and scarves and make warmer drinks. Light the candles a little earlier.

As the air gets crisp, we start surrounding ourselves with things that feel warm and comforting. Soft fabrics. Warm hands wrapped around a velvety drink. Low light. That feeling of wrapping yourself in something warm enough to take the edge off the cold.

The earth pulls up its blanket. And so do we.

That’s Cashmere…smooth sandalwood, soft violet and warm amber. A scent for the season when the world begins settling in.

COBBLER 🍎🍂

There’s a point every year when the air changes.

The evenings get cooler. The light fades a little earlier. And suddenly, after a whole summer of going, doing, and squeezing every last bit out of those long days…

we start wanting to come home.

The oven goes on.

Tart apples are sliced into the old baking dish. Cinnamon and nutmeg. Butter. Brown sugar. That golden topping nobody measures quite the same way twice.

And then you wait.

Until the smell begins making its way through the house.

Warm apples. Cinnamon. Butter. Brown sugar.

Eventually, someone follows it into the kitchen.

“Mmmmmmm… what are you making?”

Even though they already know.

They know that smell.

Because some scents become so familiar, you don’t just recognize them.

You remember them.

Finally, it comes out of the oven, bubbling around the edges.

And now we have the real debate:

Vanilla ice cream?

That cold scoop slowly melting into the warm cobbler, finding its way through all those tart apples…

Or whipped cream?

A ridiculous cloud of it on top, melting just a little around the edges.

Somehow, everyone has an opinion. 😂

Maybe that’s part of why we love this season so much.

The food gets warmer.
The evenings get slower.
We gather in the kitchen again.

Summer tells us to go.

Fall tells us to come home.

And cobbler tastes like the sweetest part of coming home. 🤎
