Yes, this time I want to praise myself a little.
As an antique item, I have everything: original patina, signs of age, a few mysterious marks, still functional, and frankly quite decorative.
The moustache is not included in the appraisal but surely increases the value.

The cup is optional. (4 Late Victorian Stoke & Sons “Azalea” teacups, softly hand-painted with different flowers, faded gold, and all the quiet charm of the 1890s.)

It all started with the pendant — an unusual handmade glass piece by a local artisan, recalling antique eye jewels from another age, but with a mysterious modern feel. With freshwater baroque pearls and teal agate beads, it became a modern statement necklace with a classical, Roman-inspired mood.

It is not precious — 18ct plated, with many signs of time, a few bumps, and the beautiful old patina that only age can give.

But it has charm, sparkle, and a surprisingly low price.

Come visit it this weekend.

Two young ladies were going to the Jake Vaadeland concert this past Sunday… in vintage attire, of course.
But first: one last important stop at the shop, to check hair and makeup and browse around thru the vintage clothing.
Vintage clothing, little treasures, and all the drama needed for a perfect night out.

It used to hold flowers.
This unmarked Continental porcelain hanging jardinière was acquired in Spain, and dates likely to around 1890–1920. Part cachepot, part chandelier, part theatrical garden-room fantasy.

Not subtle. Not practical. Very beautiful.

Exactly the kind of object that makes a room stop being a room and start becoming a story.

There is something quietly reassuring about a pocket watch still ticking after more than a century.

This small collection dates from approximately 1903 to 1913. They are working, revised within the last few years, and have all the honest character of early 20th-century timepieces. The cases are metal, not sterling silver.

Available now at The Sinking Canoe Antiques.

Hannibal crossed the Alps with elephants in 218 BC.

Meanwhile, we are here trying to ship antiques from Italy with UPS, and apparently this is where civilization collapses.

So yes — The Sinking Canoe Antiques now ships with Hannibal.

Finally, some sun.
Sunday, yes — but we are open as usual.

So give the AI a little rest from working on my visions, come for a visit, and maybe take a small walk in our own mysterious garden — no guarantee of roses, but plenty of temptations.

Inside, you’ll find this vintage reproduction after Aubrey Beardsley’s The Mysterious Rose Garden :-) — one of those black-and-white graphics that still looks scandalously modern, even though the original dates to 1894.

Elegant, strange, a little dramatic.
So, naturally, we like it.
