Our collection of vintage clothing continues to flow into the shop, just in time for next weekend…

This is a Linda Lundström “LaParka”—not Nordstrom, as someone might read at first glance. The upper label clearly says LUNDSTROM LAPARKA CANADA.

LaParka was an important Canadian winter-coat system, designed to be practical without surrendering completely to the misery of a Canadian winter. It has a shiny wind- and water-resistant outer shell, a removable inner coat made from 100% pure virgin wool, a detachable hood and a removable fur-look hood trim.

Made in Canada, tagged size M, quiet red/rusty colour and probably dating from around 1987–1992.

Authentic signed Miriam Haskell festoon or bib necklace, dating approximately the mid-1950s.

This coat does not enter a room—it arrives.
Black leather, enough fur to frighten a Canadian winter, and tails that clearly have their own personality. Completely excessive, slightly dangerous,this is a dramatic full-length black leather coat with American grey fox fur trim, designed in the exaggerated late-20th-century luxury style.
The upper section is built almost like a fur cape or wrap, with a deep shawl collar, broad shoulders, fitted waist ,a belt and long A-line leather skirt.

Seriously, thank you for following our antique hunts, questionable purchases, old objects with complicated histories—and the occasional item that tries to attack us.

Today I want to thank the young couple who yesterday discovered one of my favourite antique prints, quietly hiding in a corner of the shop (hopeing they can see this post :-) )

They immediately showed a very good eye—and a real sensitivity for an old object.

The print had lived in my house for many years before coming here to Canada in search of a new home. It is only a simple sheet of paper, engraved more than four hundred years ago, yet somehow it survived all that time, distance and history.

The young man returned the day after his first visit to take it home. Apparently, it had spoken to him too loudly to ignore.

We like to think that we choose objects. Very often, I believe, it is the objects that choose us.

The lamp was easy to see. The important part was hiding in plain sight.

This antique wall oil lamp still has its original mercury-glass reflector—an exceptionally fragile piece that is often missing or damaged. Finding the lamp complete is rare; finding the reflector intact is rarer still.
