Three Columbia Valley youth can receive season-long access to a quality mountain bike this summer through our new Youth Mountain Bike Access Program. Applications are open now until July 10, 2026

The CVCS Youth Mountain Bike Access Program lends each selected youth a complete kit — a trail-ready full-suspension mountain bike, helmet, eye protection, gloves, lock, and basic tools — for a full season, running March to March. Each bike also comes with scheduled maintenance and support from a local bike shop, so families are never left on their own.

All three Invermere bike shops — Columbia Cycle And Ski , Elemental Cycle , and lakesidebikeco . — have partnered on the program. Funding comes through a Resident Directed Grant (ReDi Grant), a program of the Columbia Basin Trust delivered by the Regional District of East Kootenay.

The program is open to youth aged 11–17 (Grades 6–11) living in RDEK Areas F or G, or in the District of Invermere, who face a barrier to accessing a bike. Applying is simple: there is no formal application. Families can send a short email, drop off a written note, or be referred by a school, coach, or community organization.

To apply or refer a young rider, contact Lorraine at [email protected] by July 24, 2026

To everyone writing this week asking about conditions…. Winter made a reappearance last night. It snowed for a few hours and depending on where in town you are there are a couple of inches. Luckily all forecasts show it warming up tomorrow and over the weekend. Only Mother Nature herself knows how it will play out so be prepared for anything and just remember to ride dirt, not mud.

Before this storm the Kloos was riding great and should be again once things melt. Low laying areas on the Johnson may be muddy as it melts. As for Swansea, it will likely still be from the 2 km down if you are taking the uptrack, or the Road gap down if you are on the road.

And if you are new to riding the area, please take the time to read trail descriptions on a trusted app like Trail Forks so you know what kind of trails you will be riding. There is a link to the trails on our website too.

Big thanks to all who are grabbing their memberships!

As of next week our hours are changing back to our Springtime/summer hours. 🚲🌷Thanks for a great winter season!
