The Connector had a great visit to the Log Cabin Gift Shop last week located at 30 Highway 242 in Joggins. The log cabin is hard to miss as you come into Joggins, there's a nice big sign as well as a cast iron fence out front inspired by the many prehistoric creatures that used to exist there millions of years ago. Joggins is not only a beautiful community but also a UNESCO World Heritage Site!
In the same space as the Log Cabin Gift Shop there is the Joggins Information Centre and Museum which has excellent information and artifacts on the history of the community. Both the museum and the gift shop are open 7 days a week from 10am – 4pm. They will close for the season on September 1st, so just a few weeks left to check them out!
Log Cabin Gift Shop is run by Fundy Treasures’ Brian and Laura Hebert. They have a variety of unique and locally made art, gifts, candles, gemstones, and much more! All items are hand made by local artisans. The shop is a great starting point for a day trip to the Joggins area.
In addition to the gift shop Fundy Treasures also offer fossil tours of the Joggins Cliffs and crystal and gemstone tours in the Parrsboro area. Tours are dependent on the tides so please check their website for more information and booking at www.fundytreasures.ca
Also, later this fall Fundy Treasures will be travelling to Pittsburg where Brian will accept the Strimple Award from the Paleontological Society. The Strimple Award recognizes outstanding achievement in paleontology by amateurs (someone who does not make a living full-time from paleontology). Congratulations Brian!
It was such a pleasure to visit Joggins – the perfect day trip from anywhere across Cumberland!
