Wasaga Beach Provincial Park is home to the eastern hog-nosed snake, a rare species which makes it an exciting experience if you spot one.

The hog-nosed snake is a harmless, non-venomous and dramatic snake, although it does put on a great show to mimic venomous species, rest assured that it is not dangerous. The snake will flare its neck, hiss loudly, and even mimic rattlesnakes by batting its tail against leaves. If that's not enough to scare you off, the snake will take it one step further and roll over, play dead, and regurgitate in a dramatic display to appear less appetizing to predators.

What should you do if you see an eastern hog-nosed snake?
🐍 Give the snake lots of space.
📱 Take a photo from distance and report your sighting to Park Office ASAP (705-429-2516). This information is crucial to current research efforts within the Park.
🚗 Watch for snakes when travelling on roadways.
🐕 Keep your dogs on a leash no longer than 2 metres in length when visiting our Park.
🌲 Treat all snakes and their habitats with respect.

Spot on! 28°C was just a proper British summer day back in '95 — sun out, BBQ on. Now the same temp gets the full red map and "Heat Health Warning" treatment. Nothing's changed except the propaganda. They really think we're that gullible?

Muskie in Lake Simcoe?

Muskie once flourished in Lake Simcoe, underpinning a thriving 19th-century commercial fishery until overharvest, habitat degradation and ecological shifts drove them to local extirpation by the 1930s.

In recognition of their importance, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry joined forces with Muskies Canada Inc., Fleming College and regional angling clubs in 2005 to re-establish muskie in Simcoe.

Since then, more than 15,600 fall-fingerling Georgian Bay strain muskies have been carefully stocked into prime spawning bays and river mouths, while parallel habitat-restoration projects have revived marshy nursery grounds along the Holland River and Cooks Bay.

Early monitoring data reveal encouraging survival and growth rates, and as these protected juveniles mature, biologists are increasingly confident that a self-sustaining Muskie population will once again roam the waters of Lake Simcoe.
