A friend of mine owns a power washing company in an area known for intense heat and significant rainfall. In that climate, concrete, stone, vinyl siding and more turns black with layers of grime and mildew over a period of time. When looking at some of those structures, you might assume, like I did, that they were beyond saving and the only option left is to tear them down.
But after the power washing team is finished their work, the transformation is staggering. Surfaces that looked permanently ruined are restored and look brand new!
Sin operates in much the same way. It accumulates quietly over time, building up in our hearts and spilling into our relationships, our work, and our daily thoughts. Eventually, the weight of that buildup can make us feel like we are beyond repair. If we’re not careful, we’ll start to believe the lie that our hearts are too dark for God to love us, or that we are too far gone for God to help us.
But this is simply not true. God never intended for us to live buried under the weight of guilt. Out of immense love, God provided a way to restore us. As John 3:17 reminds us, "God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him." Jesus offered himself on the cross to pay the debt for our sins. When we come to Him, acknowledge our need, and ask for forgiveness, Jesus washes away the buildup of past mistakes and makes our hearts like new. It is amazing! No matter how deep the stain appears, no heart is beyond the reach of His restoring power. We just need to ask. Do you desire to be made clean today? You can experience that peace right now.
Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I am a sinner. I am truly sorry for the mistakes I have made and the ways I have allowed sin to take root in my life. Thank you for your incredible love and for dying on the cross to pay the price for my sins. Forgive me, remove the effects of sin and wash my heart clean. Fill me with your Holy Spirit, guide my steps, and help me to walk confidently in Your peace, grace, and love from this day forward. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
