I've just been asked to teach at the Dryden Sunset Country Quilter's Guild Retreat the first weekend of April. So much for retirement...
The class I'll be teaching is called 4-Patch Wonder. This is a simple, fun technique that turns a bigger print into a big “star”...not a star block, but the star of the show!
I have been playing with this technique for 19 years now...with over 40 quilts in varying stages of production. Each quilt is it's own surprise. There are no recipes...only inspirations. See the photos attached for a sampling of the samples.
The concept borrows from the One Block Wonder technique to create a 4-patch block with just one fabric. Then, rather than setting the 4-patches side by side to blend them together (as with OBW), they can be set in various ways that highlight the new patterns created when the identical motifs in each 4-patch play together.
Hope to see you there.....

Thank you for being part of my circle. I was given a special blessing by an Elder in my church many years ago. It said I would be blessed in my sphere of influence, and that through my associations with people, I would gain their respect and love. Thank you for all your kind words.
My parents tried to teach my sisters and I to care about others, to share what we have, and to be grateful for all we've been given. I am glad my life's path has allowed me so many opportunities to practice those important lessons. And I am so glad my journey brought so many beautiful people into my life. You have enriched my life beyond measure!

We are almost done counting all the adhesives, buttons, cords, dyes, elastic, fabrics, gadgets, hexagons, irons, jingles, key fobs, lace, markers, notions, oilers, pins, quilt batting, ribbons, snaps, threads, universal needles, Velcro, webbing, x-tra wide bias tape, yard sticks, and zippers.
Whew! That was a lot of counting!!
Claudine is busy reorganizing it all in its new space.
Get ready to see it all THIS Saturday, Jan 11, at 106 Main St S.

Well kids, I decided to open the doors again today! I received several messages from customers who needed a little something to finish a project. So this is really your last chance to shop before the new store opens on Main St in about a week. I'll be available until 5.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night. Join me on a trip down memory lane and take a peak into my next chapter....

Born to Quilt was born as a service business, offering custom quilting and alterations, after I sold my gift store in August of 2003. In August of 2015, it became a full fledged quilt shop, adding fabric and supplies to help you make your own quilts. Over the next 9+ years, it evolved to serve the needs of other sewing enthusiasts in the area.

I have enjoyed sharing my knowledge and skills to help you in your own journeys of exploration into the world of sewing. I have always felt the responsibility to share my gift with others. And, in turn, to share the joy and satisfaction that sewing brings to my life. From helping me provide the necessities of life for my family, to adding a smile to someone's day, to encouraging others to persevere, and empowering them with knowledge to start and complete a project they can be proud of.

Never underestimate the power of a woman with a sewing machine!

Thank you for all your kind words. I truly appreciate your support and loyalty over the years. This business didn't get where it is today without you!!

After 39 years in the business world (Abundance 1979-1980 & 1986-2003, Born to Quilt 2003-2024), I am going to take some time for myself...I plan to re-organize my sewing and living space, finish some long-overdue quilts, start some new sewing projects, alter my own clothes, sew some new ones, enjoy some "snow day sew days", get involved in a little home reno, paint and tie dye some shirts, make some perogies, take a nap, read a book or two or 100, treat myself to chips at the chip truck in the middle of the day, smell the flowers, maybe dip my toes in the ocean again, and meet a new generation. And I look forward to lots of new unplanned adventures too.

Sew...thanks for challenging me with your questions. Thanks for trusting me with your projects. Thanks for sharing your successes. Thanks for helping my dream become a reality as you continued to shop here for your sewing needs. Thanks for your friendship...my circle has grown in ways I could never imagine.

Now, I look forward to watching you all as you continue to grow on your journey. I look forward to seeing Claudine transform my dream into hers. I can't wait to see all the additions her new, larger space will accommodate. Get ready to be impressed!

Oh no!!!
Just in case you're wondering what is happening at Born to Quilt.....it is business as usual at 506 First St S for a little while longer.
Due to a hiccup in our plans, the shift to new ownership and new location won't happen 'til after Christmas. Stay tuned for updates.
In the meantime...there are about 10 shopping days left until Christmas.
Gift certificates purchased at Born to Quilt will be honored by the new owner at the new location in the new year.
