Where to Use a Curve Ruler in Sewing

A curve ruler helps you draw smooth, natural curves on your patterns instead of sharp or uneven lines.

1. Back Neck Curve

Use the curve ruler to shape the back neckline.
This keeps the neckline smooth and comfortable around the neck.

2. Sleeve Cap Curve

Use it to draw the top of the sleeve (sleeve cap).
This area must be smooth so the sleeve fits perfectly into the armhole.

3. Waistline Curves

Use the curve ruler to shape the waist area.
It helps create a natural curve instead of a straight, boxy line.

4. Armhole Curve

Use it to draw the armhole (armscye).
This is one of the most important curves — it affects fit and movement.

5. Front Neck Curve

Use the curve ruler to shape the front neckline.
This curve is usually deeper than the back and needs to be clean and even.

Simple Tip

Use different parts of the ruler depending on the curve:

• tighter curve → use the deeper curve part
• gentle curve → use the longer smoother edge
