Yarrow is loved by pollinators and blooms from early summer into late fall. Flowers are beautiful dried! Drought tolerant, deer resistant and love full sun! ☀️
Put them in a spot where you are happy to let them do their thing!

Echinacea/coneflower
Loved by pollinators in late summer/fall! So many colour options. Leave the seed heads to set seed and spread. Good seed for overwintering birds as well! Love the ☀️! Deer resistant!

Hardy Asters
An easy care pollinator friendly native cultivar! Crucial for Bees, butterflies, moths as they flower so late into the fall when everything else is slowing down! Can handle a range of conditions! Sun, dry, part sun, and damp! Deer resistant!

Grasses
So many to choose from! It’s a good time to plant them as at the greenhouse they’re showing off this time of year so you know what you’re getting and gives them a head start for next year! They add an architectural element over winter, softness and movement to the garden. Extremely low maintenance, good cover for overwintering insects like ladybugs!

Most grasses like 6 or more hours of ☀️

Hydrangeas
So many varieties and can see their blooms in person at the greenhouse in the fall! Makes it easy to choose what you want! Instead of planting just one try for groups of 3 or more for maximum impact!
Panicle styles bloom on old wood, love the ☀️ but are water hungry! Hence the “hydra” in the name.
Arborescens bloom on new wood, can handle more shade and bloom earlier in summer. Water regularly for more, bigger blooms!
Leave the heads to dry overwinter for winter interest and for insects to overwinter in the heads or trim some and dry in a vase in the house!
Downside- deer love them!

Sedums and stonecrops
Are incredibly low maintenance bloomers for late summer into the fall! A favourite of bees! 🐝
Love hot sunny dry spaces where nothing else will grow!
Deer will eat these!

Russian sage
A beautiful lavender looking shrub like perennial, late summer bloomer that every pollinator appears to ❤️!
Super drought resistant, deer resistant, and easy to grow in full to part ☀️!

Joe pye w**d

A native shrub that is a pollinator favourite! 🐝 🦋 blooms later summer into fall! It loves damper conditions, and full to part sun!
A large, beautiful perennial!

Goldenrod
A native perennial that is loved by bees and butterflies! 🦋 The newer cultivars don’t spread!
Does well in sun, part sun, dry to damp conditions!

Our last day of our FALL HAIL SALE has been extended to next Wednesday, September 23rd!

With all the rain days this week it’s been hard to work in the yard so with the warmer temperatures and ☀️ sun coming next week we can hopefully get some things planted for a head start on next season!!

Plus lots of good sales throughout the greenhouse!!

Nature is amazing! 🦋

So many monarchs, swallowtails, sphinx moth caterpillars this year! It’s going to be a beautiful fall!!

Monarchs- love all types of milkw**ds to lay their eggs and caterpillars to eat! (don’t be surprised when they eat it all! lol) but need pollinator friendly perennials after they emerge from their chrysalis! Blazing star liatris, bee balms, joe pye w**ds, goldenrod, echinacea, Russian sage, catmint, asters, sedums all help give them the energy to fly to Mexico!
Swallowtails- love parsley, dill, meadow rue! But once they emerge will want all the flowering perennials as well!

Sphinx moths- (look like a tomato hornworm caterpillar- but no horn on the end) they love Virginia creeper/engelmann ivy! I have over 50 huge caterpillars in my vines around the house currently! Yes they eat a lot of the vine ( but it doesn’t harm it at all!) remember if something isn’t eating your plants it’s not a part of the ecosystem!
They turn into beautiful hummingbird moths!!
They will love all those pollinator friendly perennials as well! They always seem to love the annual vervain we have around the greenhouse blooming in the fall!

Anyone can come join in and give a hand planting the flowers for the town and w**ding!
Meeting at the town office 1-4pm
Should be a nice afternoon! ☀️

Town planting day is tomorrow from 1pm-4pm and we can use all the help we can get!

Students looking for some volunteer hours are welcome and anyone that wants to stop by to help beautify our lakeside town!

We’ll be meeting at the town office, where we will start with some w**ding and prepping for planting!

Here’s hoping for some nice weather tomorrow! ☀️ And maybe a little bit more rain! 😉

POTS

We’ve been getting an influx of pots coming back, and yes we can reuse them so thank you! But…we can only reuse the pots we have above. Everything else you bring us just ends up in our recycling, so please feel free to recycle those at home!
As for our boxes reuse those as many times as you’d like as you come to the greenhouse! But we don’t need those back, they’ll just go in the recycling here too!
