Tricks to make knitting simpler:
I hate doing Fair Isles because it takes so much longer and the tension is difficult to be perfect. I just found that trick if you are dealing with 2 or 3 colours. With circular needles, work across the row, knitting every stictches that are the same color (let's say A) and slipping (as if to purl) every stich that should be in color B. At the end of the row and without turning, slide the stitches back to the right point of the needle, pick up color B, droop A, and work every stitch that should be B, slipping every stich that was previously A. Now you can turn and work the same way on the purl side. If working in the round, knit one row of A, slipping the color B, then one round of B, slipping the color A. When finishing a group of color, stretch them out smoothly on the right needle before stranding the yarn past to the next stitch.m This will measure out just the right amount of yarn for that strand.

If you have a lot of leftover balls of different colors, Knit with two or more strands of different colors of fine yarn held together and change one strand at a time to get intermediate, blended shades.Or if you have one or two colors of different dye lots, try with knitting with 3 balls, changing yarns at the end of every row.Three closely related colors in garter stitch give a tweed effect. Two balls of the main color and one ball of a contrast color worked in "hopsac" stitch produce polka dots. Work hopsac stitch on an odd number of stitches, repeating 2 rows as follows:
Row 1: K1, *sl 1 pwise with yarn in front, K1*, rep. to end of row.
Row 2: P2, *sl 1 pwise with yarn at the back, p 1*, rep. to end of row.
Yarn markers: straw cut in small pieces, different colors for different codes, bread plastic closures, colored paper clips.
When traveling in a car or plane, use circular needles. They take less elbow room and less space in a bag.
