On 10 Rabi’ Al-Thani, we remember Sayyida Fatima Masuma (AS), daughter of Imam Musa Al-Kazim (AS) and sister of Imam Ali Al-Rida (AS).

She carried the knowledge and teachings of the Ahlulbayt (AS). Her journey from Madinah eventually brought her to Qom, where she passed away in 201 AH.

Her story invites our children to value knowledge, devotion, and the questions that help their faith grow.

Led by Sulayman Ibn Surad, they became known as Al-Tawwabin, “those who repent.” They tried to answer their regret with action.

Their story reminds us that sincere tawbah means returning to Allah, repairing what we can, and choosing better while there is still time.

A few days ago, I shared a small moment that carried more emotion than I expected.

My seven-year-old son came home with another book from the school library. He loves reading, mashaAllah, and seeing him enjoy books so confidently makes me incredibly proud.

But then one thought stopped me:

*I wish Arabic felt this natural to him too.*

We are an Arabic family, so the gap feels especially personal. My children are learning. We use books, magnetic letters, games and a website they genuinely enjoy. But French and English are reinforced at school and throughout the world around them. Arabic requires more consistency and intention from us at home.

I know we will get there, inshaAllah.

What we need is not more guilt or pressure—just a small, consistent Arabic-reading habit our family can genuinely sustain.

Halloween is already everywhere—but the deeper challenge is bigger than one occasion.

Our children are growing up in a world where excitement, belonging and even celebration are constantly being marketed to them. And sometimes, as Muslim parents, we feel pressure to compete: more decorations, more gifts, more spending.

Creating joy for our children is beautiful. But joy does not have to be measured by how much we buy.

A favourite meal. A family outing. A story shared together. A good deed repeated every year. These simple traditions can give our children something real to belong to—memories rooted in faith, meaning and love.

On this blessed date, we celebrate the birth anniversaries of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Imam Ja’far Al-Sadiq (AS).

Their lives remind our families that love is something we practise: through mercy, truthfulness, patience, kindness and a sincere love of learning.

Celebrating with children does not have to be elaborate. Read a story together, share something sweet, perform an act of kindness or choose one beautiful quality to practise as a family.

Islamic Unity Week reminds us that a difference in narration does not have to become a reason for division.

From 12 to 17 Rabi’ Al-Awwal, we honour what connects us across Muslim traditions: our love for Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), our shared Qibla and our responsibility to treat one another with dignity.

For children, unity begins in the language they hear at home. We can teach them to cherish their tradition without belittling another Muslim, ask questions respectfully and meet differences with knowledge and beautiful character.

May Allah unite the hearts of the Ummah and help us raise children who carry confidence without contempt—and conviction with compassion.
