When the DTK Art Walk launched in 2020, our goal was to rotate each piece every two years to showcase and celebrate local talent. However, ’s piece, ZHASHAGI (meaning Blue Heron), has remained a beloved piece for nearly six years - a testament to its size, significance, and the lasting impact it has had on our DTK community.
Despite significant repairs, the inevitable effects of time and weather have impacted ZHASHAGI. Tomorrow, this iconic piece will take flight. We want to take a moment to express our deep appreciation to Luke for sharing his incredible work with us since the very beginning. Projects like this simply would not be possible without the trust and support of artists like Luke.
While the artwork and its framework will be removed, our intention is to carefully study the site to ensure that the next piece installed can better withstand the elements and continue to inspire the community and future artists.
Behind every piece of art is a story, a craft, and a willingness to share with you – our DTK community. Find other works by Luke in DTK, including AOK ONIJAANIW (DOE) along Halls Lane and MAKWA on the Gaukel Block. Please help us thank Luke in the comments below.
