Not all hook sizes are created equal 🤯 📏

In accordance with the DFO announcement about a 22mm hook gap restriction, using a Canadian nickel (21.2mm) is a good way to evaluate your hooks.

By looking at these 3 examples, not all hooks are created equal. The Gamakatsu and Owner 7/0 hooks pass, but the Maruto 8832 4/0 sickel style would not.

Using a nickel is a great way to start assessing whether or not your gear will be legal starting September 1st, 2026.

The DFO have now extended the timeline on the tidal water hook regulations. September 1st is now when the regulations will take effect.

The Kitimat Chamber of Commerce and Fire Mountain Shooting Club are putting on an event at the range this Sunday, July 19th starting at 1:00pm! A great way to get out and try something new in a safe and friendly environment! Hope to see you all there!

Just to add to the confusion about hooks/ hook sizes on the ocean, DFO has amended the ban on larger single hooks and trebles. Salmon trolling rigs are safe for now. Keep those hooks sharp and those lines tight everyone! We will be posting any updates if anything else comes up, so drop us a follow and you will know as soon we do.
