Metis Matriarch is an Indigenous owned business offering fabric, notions, beads, cultural workshops, sewing machine rentals & Indigenous designs and retail creations. I am a proud Metis woman raised in Elizabeth Metis Settlement with traditional values and I am grateful to have been immersed in my rich and beautiful Metis culture. My family and I now call Buffalo Lake Metis Settlement home. I have also over 29 professional years of experience working in Public Administration with the municipal and provincial government. When I’m not creating, I am sharing Metis Traditional dance. I am grateful for the gift of dance and being immersed in dance throughout my life.

✨ Now available in store! ✨

These beautiful Star Blanket lap quilts, created by Shirley Paradis, have arrived at Métis Matriarch!

The colours, the carefully pieced stars, and all the little details are absolutely beautiful. Each one is truly a work of art, and I’m so proud to have Shirley’s creations available in the store.

And even better, Shirley will be back in November to teach another Star Blanket Lap Quilt Workshop! If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to create one yourself, keep an eye out for workshop details coming soon.

Come by and see these beauties in person, the video doesn’t quite capture just how stunning they are.

Grateful to have been a small part of this meaningful afternoon hosted by and at Métis Settlements General
Council.

There’s always something powerful about seeing community come together through stories, music, dance, food and learning; creating space to honour Survivors, remember the children who never made it home, and acknowledge the truths and lasting impacts of the residential school system.

The Generational Survivor. Generational Strength. shirt was created with meaning and intention, to honour the strength, survival and resilience carried through generations, and I’m grateful to Eversick Clothing for producing the shirts and helping bring my vision to life.

There’s something so powerful about seeing Indigenous voices, teachings and words of encouragement reflected in the things we surround ourselves with.

I remain honoured to carry La-Dawn Redcrow’s beautiful Nehiyaw Affirmation Cards, along with her brand new Affirmation Journals; which she first released right here at Métis Matriarch a few weeks ago and this is the second restock🥹✨

These are more than beautiful pages and cards. They’re little reminders to slow down, reflect, speak kindly to ourselves and make space for healing, growth and intention.

Both the Nehiyaw Affirmation Cards and Affirmation Journals are available in store and can now be found on our website too:

www.metismatriarch.com

So grateful to La-Dawn for trusting this little space to share her work from sharing her stories, to Sound Healing and she will be back for Reiki (watch for the poster).

Soulfull Creations has restocked!

Her ever popular, natural high vibrational beeswax candles are back, including the beautiful honeycomb and bumblebee designs.

You’ll also find her popular raw honey & organic Ceylon cinnamon, yarrow salves, shea butter lip balms and more.

One of my favourite things is hearing the feedback from friends who have tried these products, so many people have spoken so highly of them and shared how much they absolutely love them. That says so much. 🤎

So grateful to continue carrying Soulfull Creeations and sharing her thoughtfully made products in the store.

🧡 $850 raised in just over three weeks! 🧡

When the Loved & Passed Forward initiative started, I hoped it could be a simple way to give beautiful ribbon skirts another life while giving back to our community. I’m so grateful to share that, in just over three weeks, $850 has been raised for our local Food Bank.

A huge thank you to everyone who has generously donated ribbon skirts to make this possible. Most recently, Sherry, Alyssa, and the Friendship Centre dropped off beautiful donations to be loved and passed forward. 🧡

Every skirt in this collection is donated, every purchase is a cash sale, and 100% of those proceeds are donated directly to the Waskaysoo Community Food Bank.

It’s amazing what can happen when we take something we already have, pass it forward with love, and turn it into support for someone else in our community.

$850 and counting. 🧡

Kinanâskomitin to everyone who has donated, purchased, shared, and supported this little initiative. Your generosity is what makes it possible.

🧡🧡

A reminder that Métis Matriarch will be CLOSED today, September 30, in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

I encourage everyone, wherever you are, to take some time today to listen, learn, remember and reflect.

Attend a gathering if you can. Listen to Survivors and their families. Learn more about the truths of Residential Schools and the impacts that continue through generations. Support Indigenous led initiatives and organizations. Think about what reconciliation can look like through your own actions, not only today, but throughout the year.

Truth comes before reconciliation, and reconciliation requires more than acknowledgement. It requires action.

Today we honour the Survivors. We remember the children who never made it home. We honour the families and generations who continue to carry these stories.

🧡 Every Child Matters. Today and every day.
