Just an update, and a "wellness check" so you all know we are still alive, kicking, working, and planning.
It's been a tough spring/summer, not just for us but for gardening and agriculture in many parts of Alberta.
We got about 18.5 inches of rain total and had pumps going everywhere trying to keep up. Our water table was mostly only 12" under the ground.
It's now about 24" down. We so welcomed the long period of very little rain.
My garden was totally flooded 7 times, and everything drowned by the second time--except the weeds didn't die. So I have been a regular visitor at the Hutterites' vegetable house.
But the exciting part is that the Plant catalogues are out, and now there is conflict of interest (conflict of time) between catching up on the yardwork that couldn't be done when it was so wet, and drooling over the plants that we wish to order for the next greenhouse season.
The dirt is ordered as well as the hard goods (pots, liners, etc).
These are some of my favorite new colors of petunias last year, so will be having those. Metallic orange, Pink Cloud, and Bananarama. There will be a new black one with white spots as well.
The plant orders have to be done by the end of September.
