I’m giving up overconsumption.
I’m giving up overspending.
I’m giving up selfishness.

I’m giving my closet a purge.
I’m giving my wallet a break.
I’m giving my time to a cause I care about.

How about you?

I’m not gonna judge you for your donations. I might shake my head (in private) at the overall trend of “too much stuff” and wonder how so many of us manage to be in that predicament. But I will remain ever grateful for the overconsumption that makes our store possible.

Just imagine: we once wondered if there would be enough donations to sell to enable us to support the ministries in Mexico. Now there are days when the donations are a deluge pouring in.

Yup, overconsumption can be a blessing.

In these weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, I need you to know how thankful we are for you. Whether you are bringing in carloads of donations after you’ve done a seasonal purge or whether you are loading up your car with amazing deals you’ve just found, we appreciate your support!

Your support is making a difference in the lives of hundreds of children!💖

But seriously, is that fair? Do volunteers or the manager really get first dibs on the thrift store merchandise?

Kinda. It’s true that volunteers and management see most of the stuff before anyone else. But they don’t get special deals.

Here’s how we do it. Clothing generally has standard pricing. Even so volunteers don’t price the things they’re interested in. It gets run by another volunteer in that particular department or by management to ensure it’s getting fairly priced. Then they may buy it.

Our volunteers do get a small discount. I mean, there has to be some perk to working for free, other than the warm glow in our hearts, knowing we’re making a difference!

NGL all our volunteers spend more than they make! 😅

It looks so glamorous on the outside: beautiful colour coordinated racks, attractive seasonal displays, incredibly organized craft department, serene book room, calm music, amazing deals all under one roof.

Behind the scenes, the receiving department, the stock room, the pricing tables…😱they’re overflowing with merchandise waiting to be processed.

What’s the solution? YOU!

We’re looking for help, especially in the housewares department. If you love kitchenware, decor and general household goods and have some idea how to price them, WE NEED YOU!

If you love meeting new people and are looking for a way to make friends, WE NEED YOU!

If you’re looking for a way to fill your days in a meaningful and productive way, to give back to your community and make a difference in the lives of children near and far, WE NEED YOU!
