The dreaded f word (fall) has been said a few times this week, and we’re not ready for it! Personally, I’m never ready for fall, I’ll take summer and sunshine all year round please.
More importantly tho, we need heat and sunshine to help our peaches grow and ripen. We are starting to pick our venture variety, the very best canning peaches, so if you haven’t gotten around to canning yet, don’t worry we’re still waiting to harvest the very best.

It’s been a tough week for a lot of people in our area but if I’ve learned anything last week, it’s that people are kind, and we’re all here for one another.
A lot of us are frustrated, angry, tired and scared of the forecast when we see rain.
But this last week, I also experienced so much kindness in our community.
Someone pulled over while I was on the side of the road assessing damages and asked if I needed help.
I spoke to the most lovely lady at Town of Lincoln about our flooded basements and any assistance we might need. (Her name was Tanya, and her kindness made my heart smile.)
I stopped at montefortefruitfarm for corn and was gifted the most delicious cantaloupe I’ve ever eaten. Seriously, go get one.
Customers in our retail store stayed longer to chat, asking if we were ok while even their basements were flooded.
So let’s be extra kind to each other. Buy a coffee for someone, lend a hand if you’re able too, ask how someone’s day is going, let’s choose community over competition. Because that’s how we all win, how we all get through this together.

Rain. Hail. Rain. Floods.
Words we don’t want to hear again for a really long time.
WHAT A WEEK!
Thankfully, only a few orchards were hail damaged, the water has subsided, and peaches are growing!!
We are slowly starting to pick our first variety of peaches, Virgil! They’re tasty, sweet, and a great size so we have a lot of be thankful for!
Happy peach season friends, my absolutely favourite season on the farm!

We’ve started harvesting, and if we’ve learned anything this year, it’s that all things happen for a reason.
When we decided to harvest our cherries only for juice we didn’t know what the state of our cherries looked like.
However with the storms and winds we have experienced the last couple weeks the cherries are quite bruised which would have made for terrible quality for pitted cherries.
So karma made a decision for us, even if we didn’t know it at the time.
These cherries are dark and are going to make a beautiful concentrate for us all to enjoy this year.

We love adding a little water, a little lemonade and your daily dose of concentrate into a popsicle form!
And kids love it too!

Jen’s dad John always told me that if you were driving down the road at 50km an hour and could see cherries on the trees you knew it would be a good crop.

And for some of our trees, that’s true. But as you can tell, even just one row from another, our crop is small.

Some trees give us hope, others make our heart hurt. But we’re still here, waiting patiently for those little balls if goodness to ripen.
