Words we don’t want to hear again for a really long time.
WHAT A WEEK!
Thankfully, only a few orchards were hail damaged, the water has subsided, and peaches are growing!!
We are slowly starting to pick our first variety of peaches, Virgil! They’re tasty, sweet, and a great size so we have a lot of be thankful for!

We’ve started harvesting, and if we’ve learned anything this year, it’s that all things happen for a reason.
When we decided to harvest our cherries only for juice we didn’t know what the state of our cherries looked like.
However with the storms and winds we have experienced the last couple weeks the cherries are quite bruised which would have made for terrible quality for pitted cherries.
So karma made a decision for us, even if we didn’t know it at the time.
These cherries are dark and are going to make a beautiful concentrate for us all to enjoy this year.

Jen’s dad John always told me that if you were driving down the road at 50km an hour and could see cherries on the trees you knew it would be a good crop.

And for some of our trees, that’s true. But as you can tell, even just one row from another, our crop is small.

Some trees give us hope, others make our heart hurt. But we’re still here, waiting patiently for those little balls if goodness to ripen.

For years, you’ve trusted us to bring you the highest-quality Ontario Tart Cherry Concentrate. We take pride in our roots here in Vineland, which is why we want to be completely transparent with you about a major challenge we are facing this season.

As we head into this cherry season we hope for grace and understanding as we navigate this crop and how to process it to the best of our abilities. As always, we will keep you up to date and informed with any changes that may happen.

We spend a lot time in the orchards these days, wondering what our crop will be like, what we can do to help the trees, as well as protect them from pests and diseases.

At the end of April, we celebrated 60 years of the offshore worker program.

When Jen’s grandfather aided in starting the program 60 years ago, little did he know the impact he would have on the Canadian farming industry.

Without the help of these men year after year our farms would have ceased to exist. We owe these men the deepest gratitude for keeping our farms alive and thriving.

As we celebrate 60 years, we ask you to take the time to stop and thank someone for their service, for leaving their own families back home and helping keep our family farms alive.
