A Pair of Woodies

The hen is a small glass eyed decoy with a solid body, flat bottom, smooth face and bill and moderately hit by shot. The drake was a commissioned build to complement the very rare Wood Duck Hen.

Aren't they lovely? Do you have anything to compare, I'd love to see them. Share a picture here.

A Canvasback Drake from third quarter 20th Century.

The body of the drake decoy is from an Unidentified Carver. The damaged head was replaced and repainted with influence from Carl Rankin decoys. Professional restoration of head and neck by Tom Martindale.

It has a solid rounded body representing what many would say as an accurate reconstruction of a Classic Decoy in the style of one of Ontario’s finest decoy makers.

From a Port Dover, Ontario Yard Sale in 1989

The Canvasback Hen is from fourth quarter 20th Century and was carved by Tom Martindale of Napanee Ontario. It has a branded underside.

This was a commissioned build to create a paired set of Canvasbacks complementing the similar Rankin styled Drake.
The hen includes a solid rounded body, flat bottom, smooth face and bill.

From Martindale’s Home/Shop in 1992

They measure approximately 14” in length 6 1/2” in width stands 3 3/4” and 7 1/2” at back and head, respectively. Both are in excellent structural condition.
