My Dearest US Customers, You may have heard a thing or two about over the top tariffs being imposed on goods made in Canada. Hard to believe, but there is no exemption for cute hat makers. I am still shipping to the US, but each sale requires a conversation before shipping. I disabled US shipping on my website because I can no longer do a flat shipping rate to the states. All this to say, do reach out if you see something you need in your life. My American customers are very important to me and I will try to send hat love across the border.

The first finished handwoven scarf/shawl from my new loom. It’s completely hand dyed. The pink was dyed with Cochineal the red was an environmentally friendly acid dye. The yarn is Blue Faced Leicester, spun in Canada. Wish I could photograph softness because this one is really luxurious.

Taking advantage of my beautiful sister in law’s visit to model this hat and scarf combo. I mean, they could be sold separately…if breaking up families is your thing.

My goal was to design a hat that highlighted my naturally dyed, handwoven fabrics. This luxurious organic wool felt is the perfect backdrop. The inside is lined with silk, so it’s very soft.

It’s good to keep in mind that social media posts tend to show the accomplishment, while omitting the struggle. I love learning and I’m really delighted with this new weaving skill, but there are a few things missing from these photos….me, under my loom, screaming at 1 am, trying to connect treadle springs, shuttles flying forward onto the floor followed by the be**er bar crashing into the heddles. Days spent trying to get the frames at the same height. 1000 google searches and texts to my weaving friend, Jo, in search of answers.
I am definitely getting the hang of operating my floor loom, but not without temper tantrums.
