Dearest Gentle Readers,

For those who believed the social Season had concluded with the China & Pottery Sale or The Barn gone Coastal sale this author must correct you.

Society is merely changing hobbies.

Word has reached yours truly that the Bargain Barn is preparing an Arts & Crafts Half Price Sale this Saturday, August 22, from 10–3.

Fabric, yarn, crafting supplies, art materials and all manner of creative temptations will be offered at half price.

Naturally, certain members of Society are already insisting they need more fabric. Others claim the yarn is for a project they fully intend to finish. And somewhere on the Coast there is undoubtedly a cupboard containing enough craft supplies to occupy three generations of one family.

This author passes no judgement. One’s definition of “need”, after all, is a deeply personal matter. And I will observe that some cupboards close easier than others.

This Saturday, the Bargain Barn is having an Arts & Crafts Half-Price Sale — and if you love a good creative treasure hunt, this is your day.

Fabric, yarn, craft supplies, art materials, sewing bits, scrapbooking treasures and all manner of “Ooooh, I could make something with this…” await.

And because it’s the Bargain Barn, your bargain does something rather wonderful too: money raised supports the Pender Harbour Health Centre.

Sometimes the best outfit isn’t found in one place-it’s discovered piece by piece on a treasure hunt.

A great jacket. The perfect pair of pants. A little lace. A fabulous necklace. And apparently, enough nautical inspiration to suggest we haven’t entirely recovered from the Wooden Boat Festival and our Front Porch Market “Gone Coastal Sale”. 😉

Our volunteers have been having some fun putting together looks from what’s currently on the racks — but as always at the Bargain Barn, if you love it, don’t wait. There’s only one.

Fifty Years of Community. Fifty Years of Caring.💚

In 1976, a group of dedicated volunteers had a simple idea.
What if a thrift store could help care for an entire community?

Fifty years later, the Bargain Barn is still doing exactly that.

Every donation dropped off.
Every treasure discovered.
Every volunteer who gives their time.
Every raffle ticket purchased.

Together, they’ve helped provide hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Pender Harbour & District Health Centre Pender Harbour Health Centre funding equipment, patient care, and services that make a real difference close to home.

To celebrate our 50th Anniversary, we’re inviting you to be part of the next chapter.

Our Golden Getaway Raffle features four incredible local vacation packages, a beautiful framed limited edition print by Motoko, and a $100 RONA gift card—all generously donated by businesses that believe in this community just as much as we do.

Dearest Gentle Readers,

The china has been purchased, the pottery spirited away, and certain households on the Sunshine Coast now possess considerably more teacups than they did on Thursday.

One might reasonably assume the ladies would now retire.

One would be mistaken.

Word has reached this author that the Bargain Barn is open again today from 10–3, and in honour of the Wooden Boat Show, the Front Porch Market has gone decidedly coastal.

Nautical treasures. Coastal finds. And, apparently, sailors at the harbour.

The ladies are all a-twitter and Madeira Park has not finished entertaining Society.

From there, one might take luncheon on the Legion patio, visit the Harbour Gallery, and then make one’s way down to the Pender Harbour Wooden Boat Show.

A perfectly respectable Sunday outing.

However.

This author has heard certain young ladies whispering rather enthusiastically about the possibility of handsome sailors being present at the harbour.

Ladies.

One may admire the boats.

One may admire the craftsmanship.

One may even admire the sailors.

But do remember: a gentleman with a boat has considerably more opportunity to disappear than one with a carriage.

Proceed accordingly.

Dearest Gentle Readers,

This author has received word that certain members of society have developed a most sensible itinerary.

First, the Bargain Barn, where the China & Pottery Sale continues for only three more hours and perfectly respectable people are still being seen leaving with considerably more china than they arrived with.

Then, having secured one’s treasures, one simply carries on to the Harbour Gallery to admire the work of our talented local artists. Harbour Gallery Madeira Park

Frankly, dear readers, if one cannot make an excellent afternoon of that, this author fears there may be no helping you.

Dearest Gentle Readers,

This author can now confirm that the rumours were true.

Lord Denby and Lady Wedgwood have indeed been discovered beneath the same roof.

And they are not alone.

Royal Albert has been spotted. Distinguished china families are gathered in alarming numbers. Teacups are changing hands. Entire dinner services are disappearing into respectable households.

Society, it seems, has quite lost its composure.

The Bargain Barn China & Pottery Sale is in full swing TODAY until 3pm, and one would be wise not to dawdle. The most desirable members of society rarely remain available for long.

And remember, every treasure you take home helps support the Pender Harbour Health Centre.

One does adore a scandal with a charitable ending.
