Melissa is a lifelong resident of Cortes Island, where the rhythms of the forest, lagoon, and seasons have shaped her creative work from an early age.

Her work is rooted in care and intention. Every candle she dips, every piece she sources, and every detail she curates reflects her love for beauty, simplicity, and the quiet comfort of well-made things. Her brand Woven Goods is her way of sharing that island warmth - thoughtful goods made slowly, with heart.

ARTIST FEATURE: Ron Bazar of Arbutus Arts..
Arbutus Arts creates wood craft gifts from the spectacular Arbutus wood. These eco friendly gifts are ideal choices for those special occasions demanding something unique or for a souvenir from the coast of British Columbia.

Made from eco friendly wood from forest fall downs and dead trees, they include wooden cooking spoons, wood knives and salad sets, and a whole lot more...like green home products and green eco friendly fashion wood pendants and necklaces.

As a domestic hardwood, Arbutus wood rivals any imported or exotic hardwoods. Its wide range of grain colors and textures is unmatched, yielding strikingly beautiful wood gifts to the delight of many.

"I first learned to sew, sitting at my mother’s side. It was thrilling to watch her transform a piece of fabric into a beautiful garment. By the time I was a teenager, I was creating unique clothing for myself.

Over a decade ago, I discovered the joy of upcycling. I began collecting previously loved sweaters and giving them a whole new life as wrist warmers aka fingerless gloves. I love to use natural fibres like wool, cashmere and angora to create beautiful, cosy accessories perfect for outdoor living."

MEET THE MAKER: Melissa works behind the scenes as our schedule coordinator, making sure we have a member run the shop every day - and what a big job it is! Thank you 🌹

ARTIST FEATURE: Greg Gilchrist - Muddy Lab Pottery..
"I began making pottery at the age of 55, during the quiet days of the COVID pandemic. Like many, I was looking for something meaningful and grounding. I found it in clay. Pottery had always held a special place in my memory. I took a class in high school, and it was one of the few arts I genuinely enjoyed-and was pretty good at. Picking it up again after so many years felt like reconnecting with an old friend. I'm mostly self-taught and I enjoy exploring shapes, textures, and especially color.
I love experimenting with glazes and unusual combinations to create pieces that feel both unique and useful.

My wife, Ginger, and I spend our summers in Whaletown, a place we've come to love over the last fifteen years with our three sons and our two big yellow labs. The quiet beauty of the island and the rhythm of life here continues to inspire much of my work. Each piece I make is crafted by hand and made with care.

I hope it brings warmth, color, and creativity into your everyday life."
