E-scooters have been getting a lot of attention lately and for good reason.
Hospitals including SickKids and Southlake Health have reported a rise in e-scooter-related injuries, many involving riders under the legal minimum age of 16. Health professionals are also reporting serious injuries, including head trauma, fractures and other injuries that can have long-lasting impacts.

If you're going to ride an e-scooter in Richmond Hill, it's important to know the rules:
✅ You MUST be at least 16 years old.
Under Ontario law, e-scooters are intended for riders 16 and older. They are powerful vehicles and should be operated responsibly.
✅ If you're under 18, wear a helmet.
Medical professionals consistently emphasize that helmets can help reduce the risk of serious head injuries.
✅ Don't ride on sidewalks.
For the safety of pedestrians and riders, e-scooters are permitted on roads with posted speed limits of 50 km/h or less, as well as bike lanes, cycle tracks and approved multi-use paths.

The rules are clearly explained on York Regional Police and the City of Richmond Hill websites:
🔹 yrp.ca/e-scooters-and-e-bikes
🔹 RichmondHill.ca/micromobility

E-scooters can be a valuable part of a more sustainable transportation network, but safety has to come first. As students head back to school this fall, let's work together to make sure riders understand the rules, respect others using our public spaces, and make safe choices every time they ride.

Had a great time riding the track in Markham. Even with some delays we got to put in the first fast laps on the Thanks to The Children's Breakfast Clubs | Toronto Non-Profit for putting on the event and to all their volunteers for their patients.

Nobody wants to step aside for someone riding on the sidewalk. 🚳

Bicycles and other rideables – excluding assistive mobility devices – are not permitted to be ridden on sidewalks. The one exception to this rule is for children aged 13 and under.

Lock, dock or walk your ride, and help keep Toronto’s busy sidewalks safe for pedestrians. Learn the rules for all rideables: http://www.toronto.ca/rideables
