My most recent book, titled, The Dangle, is what I call a non-fiction fiction because it is based on a true history of what was going on during the Cold War era—stuff you wouldn't believe happening in high places of government in all of the nations involved, particularly Britain, France and the USA and East Berlin where the Russians were attempting to take over all of this divided city.
Many of you will know me as a writer of non-fiction Aviation stories from my other books and the column in Canadian Aviator magazine. So why this so-called Non-fiction fiction? Well, back in 1948 I was living in London England having arrived there planning to join the RAF but the program I was hoping to join was over subscribed, so I was out of luck and looking for work. What happened to me is a story in itself but in a nutshell I was vetted by MI6, the British Intelligence spooks, but those guys who vetted me were much later found to be spies for the Soviet Union who had been keeping the Kremlin up-to-date on British politics and military management since 1934. Here's the cover of my new book with the portraits of those 5 Soviet sleeper spies and a brief account of their origins.
