There’s a whole story packed inside this tiny cocoon! 🐝🔎

This incredible close-up captures a leafcutter bee emerging from its cocoon. Look closely, and you can see the layers of carefully cut leaves that make up the cocoon, along with the layer of pollen and nectar its mother gathered to feed the larvae as it grew.

Now that another leafcutter bee season has come to an end, a new generation is tucked away in cocoons of their own, preparing to carry on the cycle next year 💛

After a winter spent safely tucked away, this leafcutter bee is ready to hatch from its leafy cocoon. Turn up the volume and you can actually hear the tiny crunching of its pincers chewing the leaves! 🌿

👀 And if you look closely as this bee flies out of the tube, you can see another bee making its way out behind it!

Sometimes the best way to inspire a love of nature is to let kids experience it for themselves 🌼🐝

Leafcutter bees are gentle, solitary pollinators that are very unlikely to sting, making them a fascinating way for kids to get a closer look at the world of bees and pollination.

They’ll only sting if they feel threatened by being mishandled or squished, so with gentle hands and a little supervision, kids can safely observe these tiny pollinators up close.

Leafcutter bees give students a front-row-seat to see pollination happening right in front of them. From watching these gentle solitary bees emerge to spotting the perfectly round pieces they cut from leaves, there are plenty of opportunities to turn curiosity into hands-on learning.

If you've spotted some little half-moons missing from your leaves, congratulations—you've found a leafcutter bee's signature! 🐝🍃

Female leafcutter bees carefully cut pieces of leaves to build protective chambers for their young inside the nesting tubes. Each tiny piece helps create a safe place for the next generation to develop.

But don't worry! These cuttings won't harm your plants, it's purely cosmetic. Instead, consider them a sign that your garden is a haven for pollinators.

And if you find a few leftover leaf cuttings around your Kind Bee House, you've caught a little glimpse of nature's construction site 😉

From the first curious explorers to a bee house buzzing with activity! 🐝

When they're first released, leafcutter bees love to spend time just exploring their new home. You can catch them walking around the house or buzzing around your garden 🌸

Fast forward a little later into the season, and the bee house is buzzing with activity. Female bees are going back and forth with leaf cuttings and bellies full of pollen, and the nesting tubes are filling up with the next generation of pollinators!

It's one of our favourite parts of the season: watching a quiet bee house transform into a busy hub of pollination, one tiny bee at a time.
