It was written in 1915 by Ralph Chaplin, an organizer, writer, and artist for the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW, or “Wobblies”). For over half a century, Solidarity Forever has been sung on picket lines, at union halls, and during protests across Canada, the US and worldwide. The version featured in this video is sung by Pete Seeger.

I am feeling like 💩 and unfortunately had to close the store today (and yesterday) as a result. That’s what happens when you’re a small business and don’t have a roster of employees on stand by waiting to come in and cover you. Apologies to anyone who may have been disappointed that I wasn’t open. I cannot get any sicker and I needed to work on getting healthy today instead of working in the store. Thank you for understanding.

Yesterday was the annual Merrickville Antique Show & Sale down at the Merrickville Fairgrounds.

When events take place at the Fairgrounds (especially ones like this) we get extra busy.

People have to drive/walk by our place (located on the REAL MAIN ST…!) to attend Fairgrounds events and then we get to benefit from the increased traffic.

Saturday was also a gorgeous day and Merrickville (being a ‘solar powered’ village) was hopping with tourists.

When the weather is nice people venture off St Lawrence (a Main Street, but not the REAL MAIN ST.) and walk around and discover us. (When it’s busy they’re also forced to park down here and then have to go by our place as well…)

Whatever the reason, we had an amazingly busy day and we appreciate everyone who came out to shop small and support local. Thank you!

Taking a closer look at one of Beam Paints’ Great Lakes Watercolour Palettes.

“The beautiful shape of the Great Lakes carved into pine and filled with 5 colors evoking the power and majesty of this amazing fount holding 1/5 of the world fresh water. Palette can be sent back to the (Beam Paints) shop for refills, or let it become a beautiful piece of art as it becomes brighter and bluer by use! 💙💙💙 Colors include: Lake Superior, Lake Huron Teal, Wintery Night, Robins Egg and Glacial Rivers. Getting some stuff ready for this weekend’s Antique Show and Sale down at the Merrickville Fairgrounds. Saturday August 29th 10-5pm. By the way - when you’re wondering why vendors price things the way they do, please take into account the time and energy they spend sourcing, cleaning, repairing, researching, pricing, merchandising etc. and take those things into account. Have a good one!

TGIF? All the Things! Seeing Artisanal Canadian Seed Paper and playing with my new card rack was the highlight of the day! The BS Award goes to the damn wasps in my Little Free Library. (Does anyone else have that problem?) Bringing all that stuff in and out from the porch every time I’m open is the only exercise I get these days. Gotta work off my Violets On Main Village Bakery somehow. I picked up that awesome shirt from The Local Life HAMILTON one time when I was back in Hamilton. (We used to live down the street on Chatham and I like to visit my old ‘hood.)
