Lamb & Chick

Lamb & Chick Gratefully growing on the unceded territory of the K'รณmox first nation. Why the name Lamb & Chick?!

Because I don't really live on a farm with sheep and chickens, but I sure wish I did! I leased a field last year and this will be my first year producing my own ingredients for my products! You can watch the farm adventure by following

I specialize in small batch jams, pickles and preserves using fresh, local produce Each product is made with gratitude for this amazing part of the world and the indigenous people that care for it.

Some days you have plans to work in the garden and some days you spend chasing chickens through cow fields and trying to find holes in fences. ๐Ÿ“
Both the new girls got their flight feathers clipped today. ๐Ÿ˜… (And the mean girls are in chicken jail.)

The fattest scapes I have ever pulled. Funny thing that it's a lot easier to stay on top of water and fertility when the garden is just out the door. ๐Ÿ˜… I was worried the soil would be too poor for a couple of years but things are looking ok! The only thing holding me back is how many hours I can squeeze in and maaaybeee how much water we can hang on to.
This afternoon I will make hummus and pesto. Nomnom.
We aren't at the market tomorrow, catch you next weekend! ๐Ÿง„๐Ÿง„๐Ÿง„ (Still go though. ๐Ÿ˜‰)

The Cherry toms are flowering, the peas are making pods, I let some of the bolting radishes go to seed so we can try eating the seed pods (I hear they're delicious) and the bees are happy in them. And the sweet pea arches look so pretty. At night the lights come on (sometimes?! No idea) and it feels magical.
I'm not going to market this weekend but you can email me if you would like happy chicken eggs. ๐Ÿฅš

This is exciting!
I was getting worried about this hive that started strong but kept making queen cells and dividing itself. They had a queen emerge but there was no sign of eggs three weeks ago and I was getting worried so I recombined them with another hive that had originally been from this colony. (swarmed again! and left some brood and more queen cells.) The front door has been pretty quiet but I decided they could do their thing without interruptions from me for a couple weeks and here there is a new batch of foragers doing orientation flights in between rain showers today! I was going to peek in today but was thwarted by the rain. Sometimes that's ok!
