Robert Bateman has an extraordinary ability to make wildlife feel completely at home in its surroundings. Leopard in a Sausage Tree is a beautiful example.

The leopard is resting high among the branches, almost disappearing into the bark and foliage around it. The longer you look, the more there is to see.

Every painting tells a story, and some are shaped by a lifetime of journeys. For local Milton artist Nargis Naqvi, her artwork is infused with the many places she has called home and the rich cultures, memories, and moments she carries with her.

Born in Ireland, raised in Saudi Arabia, educated in the United States, and now living in Canada with her family, Nargis brings a beautiful cross-cultural perspective to her work. Her original pieces reflect heritage, womanhood, faith, memory, identity, and the feeling of standing between belonging and distance.

Her Floral Art Collection at The Gallery Upstairs is bright, textured, and joy filled, with layers of meaning in every brushstroke. Working in mixed media, acrylic, oil, spray paint, pastels, inks, collage, and textured mediums, Nargis creates artwork that feels wonderfully alive and deeply connected.

Today, on International Day of Friendship, we’re celebrating a very special local organization whose members are creating food art, sharing meals, and building genuine connections in our community. The Special Friends Network is a social and community group for teens and adults with disabilities and their allies. Their cooking club is just one of the many ways they bring people together.
