Day 4 - 3 Things...

3 things you may not know about Killer Stitch Dolls' creation.

1️⃣ I've always been a "DIY Mom" and decided to make my daughter a Wednesday Addams doll after she begged me to make her one (my mini-me). The final product was so awesome I decided to share my creation with other badass people who also love all things Halloween, and the response was mind-blowing! I had no idea people would love my creepy hand-stitched doll as much as I did...and thus, Killer Stitch Dolls was created. There have been countless times I've searched for some cool horror dolls to buy, only to be sadly disappointed that there aren't any other weirdos like me out there... well, I'm here to represent, "we are the weirdo's mister"! 🖤🧡🖤

2️⃣ My business name was inspired by my favourite killer doll Chucky. When I was 5 years old, I saw Child's Play for the first time, and I was traumatized. I know that was when my love for the horror genre started, and that's when my love for spookiness and Halloween began. I love killer doll movies, and since I was hand-stitching killer dolls, it only made sense - Killer Stitch Dolls.

Day 3 - Planning

✏️ My design ideas list is endless. Historically, I have been keeping a running list of designs that were sitting there waiting for me to get around to making them. Unfortunately, time is never on my side to create all these wonderful new dolls. I was struggling with executing my planning list. So instead, I posted all my design ideas as custom-tiered listings in my shop. This way, the world could see my planning lists and could buy these custom, truly one-of-a-kind, made-to-order dolls. I have finally made these ideas come to life by changing how I conduct my custom orders. Thankfully, I have had orders from these custom listings and have been permanently added to my shop.

📆 Another aspect of planning that I am trying to practice is planning when to release seasonal dolls. We recently started this with our Valentine's Day collection and will soon follow with our Easter collection. This is somewhat challenging trying to stay ahead of the releases 3 months in advance. But hopefully, I can stick to all my lofty plans for Killer Stitch Dolls.

Day 2 - Brand Values

🥰 Customer Commitment - My customers are my sole priority. I ensure that my customers feel valued every step of the way. Right from the thank you message when your order is placed to my personalized thank you cards in every order and my follow-up message once your order has shipped.

I often create custom orders for my customers, and I work very closely with them to ensure that their vision comes to fruition. This involves a lot of planning and communicating between us to get everything just right, from the design, colour scheme, fabric, etc. I work with them to bring their vision to life and make sure that they feel that their hard-earned money is well spent at my shop.

I keep in touch with all my previous and future customers on social media. I value and appreciate all my customers even well after they have received their amazing Killer Stitch Doll.

🛍️ Community Support - I have always believed in shopping small, especially now more than ever. I have discovered such a beautiful community of spooky artists and try to purchase from them as often as possible. Often, I share their work on my page to encourage my followers to check them out and support them. These are truly talented artists who make hauntingly beautiful art, and I'm so proud to be a part of this wonderful community collective who support each other.

☠️ Community Inclusivity - When I started Killer Stitch Dolls, I noticed the divide between the gothic/spooky community and everyone else. I was criticized and judged for making creepy goth dolls by some close to me. Some around me started questioning me as a person (and I'm sure as a mother) because of my art. Art is subjective, and my art is not for everyone, but it makes me and my customers happy. That's what matters to me. At first, I worried my kids wouldn't be invited to events if their parents disliked my art. Would we be left out of family gatherings because we're too "spooky"? Therefore, goth community inclusivity is a priority for Killer Stitch Dolls. I will continue to support and promote other artists and goth/spooky influencers on my account to help break the divide and stereotypes.

Day 1 - You & Your Work

👋 Hi, my name is Katherine. I'm the maker, designer, shipper, admin, photographer, marketing, social media rep and everything else in between behind Killer Stitch Dolls.

🇨🇦 I'm based out of Ontario, Canada and ship worldwide.

💼 Jobs - I have a demanding full-time career in the transportation industry as my day job. I'm a full-time mom when I get home, which is equally as demanding. Then when everyone is asleep, I start working at Killer Stitch Dolls. It's not easy juggling it all, but this is my passion project and it makes me happy.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family - I'm a mom to my amazing daughter and son. They are both under 6 years old and keep me very busy. I'm married to a supporting husband. Family is everything to me.

🎃 Favourite Holiday - Recently, my husband told me that if he had to choose between Christmas and Halloween, he would choose Halloween...I fell in love with him all over again. We always go big with Halloween and have matching family costumes that usually take months to plan and make. It's by far our favourite holiday.

📺 Favourite Show - Supernatural, words can't describe my love for this show and the actors... specifically Jensen Ackles. Fun fact, we named our son Dean in honour of our favourite show.

🎥 Favourite Movie - I have too many to choose from. My top 5 are Ghostbusters, Child's Play, Beetlejuice, Nightmare Before Christmas and the Addams Family. I loveeee horror movies, and I'm typically not scared, although paranormal movies scare me more than anything.

🎧 Podcasts - One of my favourite pastimes is listening to true crime podcasts. I often sew while listening. I find listening about true crime weirdly relaxing and terrifying at the same time. Always remember, Stay Sexy And Don't Get Murdered 🖤
