๐ŸŽ’ Back 2 School at Wilcox! ๐Ÿ“š

Team 4 took us back to the classroom for last weekโ€™s Wilcox BBQ โ€” and they committed to the theme from start to finish!

The shop was transformed for Back 2 School, complete with brown-bag lunches, colouring contests, crosswords, word searches and a few friendly competitions that proved some of us may be a little rusty after all these years. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Of course, no school day is complete without a principal. Our Sales Rep Rod Pilon stepped in as โ€œPrincipal Pilonโ€ for the afternoon and delivered a comedy sketch that definitely wouldnโ€™t have made it into the regular curriculum.

We also celebrated another class of Wilcox Academy โ€” continuing our focus on learning, development and sharing knowledge across our team.

Great food, plenty of laughs and some friendly competition. Huge thank you to Team 4 for putting together such a creative event and going all-in on the theme!

Q3 is almost over.

If your facility's door and dock equipment hasn't had a professional inspection this year โ€” you're already behind.

Most equipment failures happen in Q4. Cold weather stresses springs, hydraulic fluid thickens, seals shrink and crack.

The facilities that don't scramble in November are the ones that booked in August and September.

At Wilcox Door Service, Indigenous Day is an opportunity for our team to come together, share a meal, learn, and celebrate the cultures, histories and contributions of Indigenous Peoples across Canada.

This year, our team gathered for a special lunch and learning session, with custom Wilcox Indigenous Day shirts created to mark the occasion and celebrate the Indigenous roots that are an important part of who we are as a company.

We also wanted the day to have an impact beyond our walls.

Through a team raffle and donations, our employees raised an incredible $๐Ÿญ,๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฐ, with 100% of the proceeds supporting two organizations doing meaningful work in Indigenous communities:

Ontario's working-at-heights certification โ€” and why it matters who you hire.

For any work above 3 metres โ€” including overhead door installation and some dock work โ€” your contractor needs valid WAH certification under OHSA.

Why this matters for you: if an unqualified contractor has an incident at your facility, the liability can come back to the owner of the premises.

Every Wilcox technician holds valid working-at-heights certification. It's part of what it means to be a Union Ironworker.

A Scarborough distribution centre had 3 spring failures across 8 overhead doors in 6 months.

The obvious answer was to keep replacing springs. The right answer was to find out why they were failing.

Root cause: doors installed with springs rated for residential cycle counts โ€” not the 50+ daily cycles this facility was running.

The fix: a one-time upgrade to commercial-grade torsion springs rated for 100,000 cycles.

Cost of the upgrade: $4,200.
Previous annual emergency repair spend: $8,500.

That's the difference between a vendor and a partner.

Good food, a little friendly competition, and a great afternoon with the Wilcox team!

This weekโ€™s BBQ featured a full Wilcox Family Feud, putting everyoneโ€™s door knowledge, teamwork, and competitive spirit to the test. We even worked some of our incredible supplier partners into the menu โ€” because apparently thereโ€™s no better way to celebrate the door industry than with Powered Aire Fryers, HySecurity Sliders, Richards-Wilcox Ribbed Sections (BBQ Ribs), Hรถrmann Hot Dogs and an Upwardor Pineapple Upside-down cake for dessert! ๐Ÿ˜‚

A huge congratulations to Asha Fletcher, who took home our Team MVP trophy! ๐Ÿ†

More than anything, days like this are about getting everyone together away from the day-to-day, having some laughs, and celebrating the people who make Wilcox what it is.

2. Look at the seal corners โ€” gaps mean heat loss and pest entry all winter.
