This is bigger than plastic bottles ending up in the ocean.
Plastic is touching our food.
Our water.
Our clothes.
Our children's toys.
Our personal-care products.
Our kitchens.
Our furniture.
And increasingly, researchers are looking at what happens when the chemicals associated with all of that plastic exposure make their way into ๐๐.
A new investigation highlighted by CNN this week reported that nearly

The report identified concerns including endocrine disruption, reproductive toxicity, organ toxicity, genetic damage and cancer-related hazards.
And that's not even the part that concerns us the most.

Think about that for a second.
We are surrounded by these materials every single day...
and for thousands of the chemicals involved, we still don't fully understand what repeated exposure may mean.

When people hear about plastic and health, they often think only about microplastics.
But the bigger conversation also includes chemicals used in plastics such as ๐ฝ๐ต๐๐ต๐ฎ๐น๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐, ๐ฏ๐ถ๐๐ฝ๐ต๐ฒ๐ป๐ผ๐น๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ผ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ that help make products flexible, durable, colourful or resistant to heat.
Some chemicals of concern can also be persistent or bioaccumulative, meaning repeated exposure can matter over time.
Researchers are examining relationships between plastic-associated exposures and areas such as:
โข Hormone and endocrine function
โข Reproductive health
โข Cardiovascular health
โข Metabolism
โข Inflammation and oxidative stress
โข Gut health
โข Liver and kidney health
โข Developmental health
This isn't some obscure exposure happening in a factory somewhere.
The new analysis looked at the things surrounding us every day.

Food stored in plastic.
Hot food placed into plastic containers.
Plastic water bottles.
Takeout containers.
Synthetic clothing.
Household dust.
Personal-care packaging.
Kitchen utensils.
Food wrappers.
The issue isn't necessarily one container you used once.
It's the ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ฒ๐
And we're starting to have more conversations with people who are concerned about what that cumulative exposure may be doing to their health.

Earlier this year, researchers published a randomized pilot trial where people dramatically reduced plastic contact with their food, kitchenware and personal-care products.
In only ๐ณ ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐๐, urinary levels of several plastic-associated chemicals dropped significantly.
One phthalate metabolite fell by about ๐ฏ๐ด%.
Another fell by about ๐ฑ๐ฐ%.
BPA fell by about ๐ฒ๐ฌ%.
That should get people's attention.
Because it shows that changing what we're exposed to can change what researchers are measuring in the body surprisingly quickly.

At Ford's, we're having more conversations about environmental exposure, nutrition, gut health, hydration, supplementation and the body's natural pathways for processing and eliminating what it doesn't need.
And yes...

Don't heat food in plastic when you have another option.
Use glass or stainless steel where practical.
Replace old, scratched plastic food containers.
Reduce unnecessary single-use plastics.
Pay attention to how much highly packaged food you consume.
Look at what your food, water and personal-care products are coming into contact with every single day.
You don't have to make your home plastic-free overnight.
You just need to start paying attention.
Because plastic has become so normal that most of us barely notice it anymore.
