Question From A Client: My hearing aid is sounding quiet or dead, do I just change the battery?
Answer: No! The first thing to do is change the waxguard (the little white tip on the end of most hearing aids) or if you are wearing a mold with a tube, make sure the opening is free of any blockage such as wax or moisture. More often than not your hearing aid is working just fine but the sound can't get out if the tip is plugged with wax. When in doubt, bring your hearing aids in to us to be cleaned. There is never a charge for a 'clean and check'. We will also give you more waxguards at no charge.

Hearing Terminology of the Day: TINNITUS

Tinnitus is the sound heard in your ears when there is no sound being produced around you. It has been described as ringing, rushing, buzzing, static, cricket noise, clicking... It can be a continuous noise or it can come and go. There has even been a link between tinnitus that fluctuates in volume and blood pressure. Some medications can cause it, so can some existing medical conditions. Often, hearing aids help mask the sound. For more information please come and see us!

Hearing Terminology of the Day: SENSORINEURAL hearing loss

Sensorineural hearing loss (or SNHL) is the most common type of hearing loss. Hearing loss due to aging and due to noise exposure fall into this category. It most often results from damage to the nerves in the cochlea, called 'hair cells'. SNHL can be treated with hearing aids. Ask your hearing healthcare professional for more information.
