On the East Coast of Canada we are blessed with the most amazing flora and fauna in the world. Bayberry season is early this year and I'm still picking.

While these candles are not for wholesale, I wanted to show case the many mediums we work with for candle making. I process using the old fashioned boil method of extracting the wax from the berries, skimming the wax once cooled and starting all over again. It's truly a labor of love and a very deep connection to this land. Being able to process this myself and connect to the spirit of the plant is one of the most magical components to my personal craft.

I do mix local NB beeswax 5% to 95% bayberry wax for better stability and longer burn time for the bayberry candles. Bayberry wax itself is very flaky and unstable so the burn will be shorter than when mixed with a harder wax.

Tonight I have started processing the first 10 pounds of berries. This will take me several days. 16 pounds of berries produces roughly 1 pound of wax, so I'll be at this for almost 2 weeks straight. Then cleaning the wax from debris and twigs I may have missed.

Welcome to my Candle world...

My name is Sarah, I've been a candle maker for close to 20 years. I love all things candles and candle making. I am also the owner/operator of an Occultshop in beautiful downtown NB.

I started making candles for my shop in late 2019/early 2020 due to the fact I was tired of fighting with suppliers for receiving the wrong color, or not getting the size candle I ordered or broken items, sometimes all three at once. I thought, why the heck am I not making these myself. We started providing our clients with vegan friendly candles with no chemicals made right here in Canada, the response was overwhelming. Eventually we expanded to wholesale as I figured other shops like mine had or were dealing with the same problems.

We aren't "better" per-say. But we know what goes into our candles and we guarantee our product.

We source 95% of our raw materials (wax, wicks, color) from Canada, our beeswax is local NB. Our molds come from all over the world, some of which we have custom made.
