Guess who stopped by Wachiya?👀

We were delighted to welcome renowned actor John Malkovich at Wachiya as he was out shopping and exploring Old Montreal !

It was an honour to show him our collection of authentic Cree arts and crafts that are provided by our artists in Eeyou Istchee! Moments like these remind us of how precious and special it is to share our culture, artistry, and traditions from visitors that come from around the world.

If you're in Old Montreal - come by and shop at Wachiya at 79 Rue Saint-Paul East. 📣

We were honoured to welcome Iisitiiskwaau Blackned to Wachiya!

She currently represents the Cree Nation of Wemindji as a School Commissioner on the Cree School Board's Council of Commissioners, and also serves as the current Miss Cree Nation of Wemindji - she is proud to advocate for her community and culture.

During her visit, she highlighted the beautiful Giizhik Indigenous Doll and selected a stunning pair of earrings from our collection made by Amy Der-Ironstar, Founder of Ironstar Co.

We are grateful for her support of Indigenous artists, makers, and Wachiya.

Thank you, Commissioner Blackned, for stopping by and shopping with us!

May was filled with smiles, stories, and meaningful connections here at the Wachiya Store. One of our favorite moments was hearing customers greet us with “wachiya”, which is our Cree word meaning “hello.”👋🏼

Every Wachiya shared reminds us of the importance of celebrating language, culture, and community. Thank you to everyone who stopped by and helped make our days brighter - until next time!
