Instruction and courses given cover instrumental instruction as central, extending to theory, ear-traininng, composition and sound-design for public and private music school entrance tests, university p

reparation, and on-goging skills development. BPP Music Therapy is conducted by an accredited music therapist, using Orff instruments in the treatment activities, while assessing client needs in the design of a customized treatment plan. We offer developmental music therapy for children 3 to 6 years old, developmental music therapy for children with special needs, music therapy for well being, music therapy for elderly. 🎶 Teaching my student to tune her Guzheng in D.

I say: "Turn AWAY from you to make it HIGHER. Turn TOWARD you to make it LOWER."

She nods. Confident.

She turns away. Pitch stays the same.

She turns toward. Pitch stays the same.

She groans. "Why isn't it changing?!"

I walk over. I look at her hands.

She's been tuning the WRONG string for five minutes.

I point. "That's not the string."

She stares at it. Then at me. Then at the tuning bar in her hand.

"Teacher... I've been holding the tuning bar this whole time. Why didn't it tell me?"

I blink. "The tuning bar doesn't talk."

She looks at the bar. Disappointed.

"It should. It saw me tuning the wrong string and said nothing."

I laugh. "It's not a witness. It's a tool."

She sighs. "So I did everything right... just on the wrong string?"

"Exactly. Your technique was perfect. Your target was wrong."

Takeaway:

Sometimes we do everything right – but we're working on the wrong thing.

Before you try harder, make sure you're on the right string.

Even the best tool can't help if you're using it on the wrong problem.

By copying you. The whole time.

Caption:

🎶 My student finished learning the piece. Beautiful. Correct. I'm proud.

She puts down her hands. Looks at me.

"Teacher, one more thing. Can you teach me the dynamics?"

I blink. "The dynamics?"

"Yes. I played it like you played it. I copied everything you did. But I still don't know when it's supposed to be loud or soft."

I look at her. Then at the score. Then back at her.

"Wait. You learned the ENTIRE piece by watching me?"

"Yes. That's how I always learn."

I think back. Every lesson. Every phrase. She never looked at the score.

"So you've been copying my face, my breathing, my hand movements... for three months?"

She nods. "Your left hand bends differently in the second section. I copied that too."

I stare at her. "You didn't learn the piece."

"I didn't?"

"No. You learned ME."

She thinks. "Is that bad?"

"No. It's impressive. But now you need to learn THE PIECE. The dynamics are written there." I point at the score.

She looks at it. Then at me.

"Teacher... the whole time I thought the music came from you."

"It does. But the instruction came from the score."

She squints at the page. "Okay. Let me try reading it."

She plays. Stops. "Teacher... the score has been lying to me."

"How?"

"There are dynamics written here. I just never looked."

I sigh. "Three months. And you never thought to read the page."

She shrugs. "Your face was more interesting."

Takeaway:

Imitation is how we start. But independence is how we grow.

Don't just copy the teacher. Read the map. Find your own voice.

🎶 « Printemps à Lhassa » – mais mon élève jouait chaque phrase comme un éternuement.

Je suis musicothérapeute certifiée. J’ai traité ça comme une allergie : éliminer une cause à la fois.

Test 1 – Main gauche seulement ? Magnifique, fluide. Pas le problème.

Test 2 – Main droite seulement ? Ah, tension. La mélodie bloquait.

J’ai observé sa technique du pouce en mouvement inverse. Sa main est grande. Chaque fois qu’il inversait, sa main s’ouvrait grand – créant une tension qui bloquait le flux.

« Tu n’as pas d’allergie. Ton pouce se bat contre lui‑même. »

Nous avons ajusté sa position – ouverture plus petite, pouce relaxé. Soudain la mélodie respirait. Le printemps était arrivé.

Leçon pour toute compétence :
Quand quelque chose semble être une « allergie » – qui ne va pas sans qu’on sache pourquoi – isole les variables. Teste une partie à la fois. La cause est souvent bien plus petite que tu ne le penses.

Tôi là nhà trị liệu âm nhạc được chứng nhận. Tôi xử lý việc này như dị ứng: loại trừ từng yếu tố một.

Thử nghiệm 1 – Chỉ tay trái? Đẹp, mượt. Không phải vấn đề.

Thử nghiệm 2 – Chỉ tay phải? À, căng thẳng. Giai điệu cứ bị kẹt.

Tôi quan sát kỹ thuật ngón cái đảo chiều của tay phải anh ấy. Tay anh ấy to. Mỗi lần đảo chiều, tay anh ấy mở rộng ra – tạo ra sự căng thẳng làm tắc dòng chảy.

“Con không bị dị ứng. Ngón cái của con đang đánh nhau với chính nó.”

Chúng tôi điều chỉnh vị trí tay – mở nhỏ hơn, ngón cái thả lỏng. Bỗng nhiên giai điệu thở. Mùa xuân đến.

Bài học cho bất kỳ kỹ năng nào:
Khi điều gì đó giống như “dị ứng” – sai nhưng không thể xác định nguyên nhân – hãy tách biệt các biến số. Kiểm tra từng phần một lần. Nguyên nhân thường nhỏ hơn bạn nghĩ rất nhiều.

“你不是过敏。是你的拇指在自己跟自己打架。”

我们调整了手的位置——更小的张开幅度，放松的拇指。突然，旋律呼吸了。春天来了。

当某件事感觉像“过敏”——不对劲但说不清原因——试着分离变量。一次只测试一个部分。原因往往比你想象的要小得多。

테스트1 – 왼손만? 아름답다. 부드럽다. 문제 아님.

테스트2 – 오른손만? 아, 긴장. 멜로디가 계속 걸린다.

그의 오른손 엄지 리버스 테크닉을 관찰했다. 손이 크다. 리버스 할 때마다 손이 넓게 벌어지면서 흐름을 막는 긴장이 생겼다.

“알레르기가 아니야. 네 엄지손가락이 자기 자신과 싸우고 있는 거야.”

손 위치를 조정 – 작은 벌림, 편안한 엄지. 갑자기 멜로디가 숨을 쉬었다. 봄이 찾아왔다.

모든 스킬에 적용되는 교훈:
무언가가 “알레르기”처럼 느껴질 때 – 틀렸지만 원인을 모르겠다면 – 변수를 분리하라. 한 번에 하나씩 테스트하라. 원인은 생각보다 훨씬 작은 경우가 많다.

どんなスキルにも通じる教訓:
「アレルギー」のように感じる時 – 何かおかしいけど原因がわからない – 変数を分離せよ。一度に一つのパーツをテストせよ。原因は大抵あなたが思うより小さい。

🎶 “Spring in Lhasa” – but my student sounded like he was sneezing through every phrase.

I’m a certified music therapist. I treated this like an allergy: eliminate one factor at a time.

Test 1 – Left hand only? Beautiful. Smooth. Not the problem.

Test 2 – Right hand only? Ah. Tension. The melody kept getting stuck.

I watched his right hand thumb reverse technique. His hand is big. Every time he reversed, his hand opened wide – creating tension that blocked the flow.

“You’re not playing with allergies. Your thumb is fighting itself.”

We adjusted his hand position – smaller opening, relaxed thumb. Suddenly the melody breathed. Spring arrived.

Universal takeaway for ANY skill:
When something feels “allergic” – wrong but you can’t pinpoint why – isolate variables. Test one part at a time. The cause is often smaller than you think.

🎶 Problème de justesse au guzheng? La main gauche appuie toujours trop haut ou trop bas? Je suis musicothérapeute certifiée et professeure de guzheng primée.

Mon élève apprenait « Liu Yang River » – une belle mélodie fluide. Mais sa main gauche appuyait toujours un peu trop haut ou trop bas. J’ai pensé : « Fais‑la chanter ! Chanter aide le rythme, non ? »

Elle a chanté. La mélodie est sortie… bancale. Comme un canard perdu. 🦆

Le rythme s’est amélioré. La justesse ? Oh non, elle a empiré.

Elle m’a regardée : « Je crois que je ne sais pas chanter. »

J’ai souri. « Tu n’as pas besoin de chanter. Tu as besoin d’ÉCOUTER. »

Nous avons arrêté de jouer, arrêté de chanter. Nous avons seulement écouté. Des enregistrements. Encore et encore. En allant à l’école, avant de dormir, en mangeant des nouilles. Des centaines de fois.

Une semaine plus t**d, elle a rejoué. Sa main gauche appuyait soudain… juste.

« Comment c’est arrivé ? » a‑t‑elle demandé.

« Tes oreilles ont appris en premier. Ensuite tes doigts ont suivi. »

Leçon pour n’importe quelle compétence :
On ne peut pas corriger ce qu’on n’entend pas. Avant d’essayer de faire, écoute. Mille fois s’il le faut.

🎶 Đàn tranh bị lệch tông? Tay trái nhấn dây luôn cao hoặc thấp? Tôi là nhà trị liệu âm nhạc được chứng nhận và giáo viên đàn tranh từng đoạt giải.

Học trò tôi đang học “Lưu Dương Hà” – một giai điệu đẹp, uyển chuyển. Nhưng tay trái cô ấy nhấn luôn hơi cao hoặc hơi thấp. Tôi nghĩ: “Hãy để cô ấy hát! Hát giúp ổn định nhịp, phải không?”

Cô ấy hát. Giai điệu… lắc lư. Như một con vịt lạc đường. 🦆

Nhịp cải thiện. Cao độ? Ôi không, tệ hơn.

Cô ấy nhìn tôi: “Cô ơi… hình như con không biết hát.”

Tôi cười: “Con không cần hát. Con cần LẮNG NGHE.”

Chúng tôi ngừng chơi, ngừng hát. Chỉ nghe. Nghe bản ghi âm. Lặp đi lặp lại. Trên đường đi học, trước khi ngủ, trong khi ăn mì. Hàng trăm lần.

Một tuần sau, cô ấy chơi lại. Tay trái nhấn dây bỗng nhiên… chính xác.

“Sao lại thế ạ?” cô hỏi.

“Tai con đã học trước. Rồi ngón tay con theo sau.”

Bài học cho bất kỳ kỹ năng nào:
Bạn không thể sửa cái bạn không nghe thấy. Trước khi cố gắng làm, hãy nghe. Nếu cần, nghe cả nghìn lần.
