How does the body influence the mental construction of transgender identity? Is consciousness a gender? What connections exist between the body, identity and consciousness? These are the questions Yam’s practice explores. Seeking to reconnect with material reality, their work gives form to the q***r psyche, drawing inspiration from anatomy, the shapeshifter and biorphism to explore abstract thought as something intrinsically linked to the body.
