Vintage Morden

Vintage Morden Vintage Morden is a place for all of your older and historic pics of the best place in Manitoba.

Vintage Morden is a page created in the spirit of other vintage community pages like Vintage Winnipeg, Vintage Toronto etc. We hope people take the opportunity to post pictures from Morden's history whether the photo is from 1881 or 1981 it's part of our history! Post old pics of unidentified people and let the web sleuths take over for example. Have fun helping us flesh out and preserve the history of Morden.

George Burrows was born in Chelsea, Ontario, on 19 August 1882. His family resided in Morden before they moved to British Columbia sometime after 1901, but it appears that he remained in Manitoba. When he enlisted in Winnipeg with the 200th Battalion on 4 May 1916, Burrows was employed as a butcher in Winnipeg. He was granted leave from training at Camp Hughes (near Brandon) to assist with the harvest in the Morden area where he also worked as a butcher's assistant for William Snowden. Shortly before his return to Camp Hughes, Burrows fell ill and died on 8 September 1916 at Winnipeg General Hospital. He is buried near the Cross of Sacrifice at Brookside Cemetery in Winnipeg. Burrows' name does not appear on a known war memorial in Manitoba.
