I used to think I had to fit into one version of myself to be successful.
Soft enough.
Pretty enough.
Professional enough.
Palatable enough.
Like creativity only counted if it looked a certain way.
But this weekend reminded me that artistry has never lived inside one box.
Spent Mother’s Day weekend with my family at an oddities event surrounded by preserved moths, strange collections, handmade art, dark beauty, curiosity, and people fully embracing the things that make them different.
And honestly? It felt inspiring in the same way lashes do.
Because artistry is really about attention.
About seeing beauty in details other people overlook.
About patience, intention, delicacy, emotion.
Taking a moth taxidermy class weirdly reminded me so much of my work as a lash artist. Steady hands, precision, respecting delicate structures, creating something meant to be admired closely.
I think the best artists allow themselves to explore beyond what’s expected of them.
Not everything meaningful has to fit neatly into one aesthetic or identity.
You’re allowed to be soft and strange.
Feminine and unconventional.
Professional and deeply creative.
That’s where the magic usually lives anyway 🖤🦋
