SPCA St. John’s Announces Move to New, Expanded Facility to Better Serve Animals and Community
St. John’s, NL - SPCA St. John’s today announced it will relocate to a new facility at 120 East White Hill Road in St. John’s, marking a major milestone in improving animal care and adoption services for the region. The move is planned for July 3rd, 2026, and is expected to take five days.
The new location will offer expanded capacity, upgraded medical and care spaces, and improved visitor access—allowing the organization to help more animals and better support adopters, volunteers, and the broader community.
“This is an important step forward for animal welfare in the region and in Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Amanda Buis, SPCA St. John’s Board Chair. “Our new space gives us the capacity and facilities we need to better serve animals and the people who care for them. We offer our sincere thanks to everyone in the SPCA community who supported our journey to the new building.”
The new facility will provide:
-Increased space for animal intake and care
-Improved veterinary and isolation areas
-Modern, welcoming adoption spaces
-Better accessibility and parking for visitors
-Capacity to expand outreach and education programs
The move to a larger facility responds to growing demand for animal services across the region.
Transition Details
“We’re extremely excited to move the animals into a facility that is designed to meet their needs. We’re working carefully to ensure a safe and low-stress transition for the animals. We’ve planned every stage of the move with the animals’ well-being in mind, and to ensure there’s no gap in services,” said Karen Mahoney, SPCA St. John’s Executive Director.

The current location on RCAF Road will close on July 3rd, 2026.
Move-in to the new facility on 120 East White Hills Road will occur from July 3rd to July 8th.

For individuals dropping off donations of supplies to the shelter, please deliver them to 115 RCAF Road until July 2nd. Beginning July 8th, donations can be dropped off at 120 East White Hills Road.
We anticipate the clinic will be ready in August to accept animals treated under SPCA community programs such as the Spay and Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) and Preventing Unwanted Pets (PUP) Program. When available, more information will be posted to https://spcastjohns.org/.
Please note that visitation with adoptable pets will remain by appointment only for approved adopters. Reducing the number of visitors to approved adopters reduces stress on the animals. Continued Community Support
As the SPCA St. John’s transitions to its new home, community support remains critical. Another approximately $1.4 million is needed to fund construction costs. We gratefully welcome donations of any size to the capital campaign.
Residents can also support the SPCA by adopting or fostering animals; donating goods and funds to support operations at the new facility, and/or volunteering their time at the shelter or our thrift stores.
Open House Event
The community is invited to celebrate the new facility at an open house on September 12, immediately following our annual Paws on the Pond event, including tours of the new shelter and meet-and-greet opportunities with adoptable animals.
