❤️🙏 The bond between the USA 🇺🇸 and CANADA 🇨🇦 is much, much greater than most people realize. To some, everything between our two countries has become about politics, politicians, tariffs, elections, and disagreements across a border. But that is only the surface of something that runs far deeper.
Canada and the United States don’t simply share a continent. We share an enormous history, countless families, friendships, communities, workplaces, highways, rivers, lakes, cultures, dreams, tragedies, and victories. For generations, people have crossed that border to visit one another, work together, fall in love, raise families, celebrate good times, mourn difficult ones, and simply be good neighbours.
There are Canadians with American relatives and Americans with Canadian relatives. There are communities on opposite sides of that imaginary line where the people sometimes have more in common with one another than they do with people hundreds or thousands of kilometres away in their own country.
We listen to much of the same music, watch many of the same movies and sports, share many of the same traditions, and worry about many of the same things. Most importantly, ordinary people on both sides want much the same thing: a safe place to raise their families, a chance to work hard, and a decent life for the generations coming behind them.
Governments can disagree. Politicians can argue. Policies can change with the turning of an election. Presidents and prime ministers come and go, but ordinary people remain.
The nurse, farmer, fisherman, engineer, teacher, truck driver, construction worker, soldier, student, mother, father, son, daughter and grandparent on either side of that border are still people first.
That border may be drawn on a map, but it doesn’t run through the hearts of millions of people.
So in these noisy times, perhaps we should remember something simple: Canada 🇨🇦 and the United States 🇺🇸 are not merely two countries that happen to sit beside one another. We are neighbours who have shared this remarkable piece of the world for generations.
And like any neighbours, we may have our disagreements. Lord knows, every neighbourhood has had a few! But disagreement doesn’t erase friendship, family connections, shared history or mutual respect.
Politics is temporary.
People endure.
Families endure.
Friendships endure.
And the relationship between Canada and the United States is far bigger than any politician hat ever lived, any election ever casted a vote, any tariff placed on either country, or any political argument we both may have.
