It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce that our beautiful heritage home art gallery on Historic Elma Street will close its retail location on:
Sunday, January 26th
Owner Cheryl Taylor has worked very hard over 8 1/2 years with the Lineham Team to keep the doors open to a gallery that thousands have come to know and enjoy. And none of them have been easy. It is entirely due to love, passion, sacrifice and key partnerships that we persevered through all the many challenges that most businesses have faced during this time.
Lineham House Galleries remained through it all in deep appreciation for the unwavering devotion of our beautiful artists and the many warm, valued clients whom we had the privilege of serving in pursuit of the things we have always valued: living and giving in art.
If business success could be measured in love and endless enjoyment from everyone who has wandered in the through our curated collection in the soaring spaces of a very special and storied historic home, we would be very wealthy indeed.
In this, we have achieved our goal many times over.
While change can be very hard, and certainly has been here as we have been quietly, slowly and tearfully say goodbye to this beautiful home of art, it is also healthy and necessary.
As we wind down in January, let us all reflect on what Lineham House Galleries - and I mean the community we created here together and less the name - has come to mean to all of us. Because we did a thing. A pretty big thing actually in our small, casual and usually quiet ways with each other, for Elma Street and Downtown Okotoks.
Join us as we celebrate all the years, the many good times - and there were so many - as well as key people behind the scenes which includes artist and co-founder Janifer Calvez, Cheryl’s supportive family, our close artist friends - you know who you are - through to the rock that is our 2025 Artist In Residence Leslie A Starr Art It’s right there in the name and all that Leslie is made of - she is without a doubt a rock star in the year we have come to know her. Watch out for her and her beautiful wildlife art Okotoks for she has now chosen you, lucky you, to call home.
And let us also celebrate Elma Street - Okotoks. It has enjoyed success in every indicator in the almost 9 years Cheryl has devoted pro bono to marketing it and helping to grow with a passion along with other Elma business owners and its supportive promoters, many of whom are artists. As the quiet season for retail is soon upon us heading into yet another uncertain year for Canadian business, remember too what Elma Street has come to mean to you. Because none of the places, faces and experiences you love exist without you and your always very necessary support.

Perhaps that painting you connected to and have had your eye on needs to be a forever piece in your home to start the new year off right from a place of joy. The joy that it gives not only by virtue of its beauty or meaning to you, but also in the ability to support a local gallery and artist. We are all, small business and patrons together, supporters of our communities, this amazing province of ours and the greater good in us - that good will ALWAYS come from people, ACTUAL human beings - that you know and trust. Let us all be fierce in this too.
I LOVE that every one of our artist’s paintings out there will forevermore connect back to the art, heart and soul of what we had here for a time in this living, seemingly breathing, historic home. Whose bricks, mortar and the rooms we graced in love and care will hold the beautiful memory of us for many years to come.
We look forward to seeing you and cherishing the last few weeks we have together friends. At least here anyway, at Historic Lineham House 1906.
